Hangs Self In Ehime Mbano Because Okorocha's Non- Payment Of Salaries by Thegents6: 10:29am On Jun 30, 2016 |
A man said to have been in his mid fifties has
reportedly ended his own life. The man who
hailed from Umuezeala-Owerri in Ehime-
Mbano LGA of the State was said to
complained bitterly to his wife about his
economic plight which had gone so bad that he
could not even afford a meal for himself not
to talk of providing for his family.
According to a report credited to Okey Alozie
and published on the Facebook page of Obinna
Samuel, the man's lifeless body was later
found dangling in a guava tree within the
compound.
The man's widow is said to be a staff of the
Imo State Government deployed to the Local
Government Area. The State Government's
delay in paying salaries of civil servants in the
State coupled with the controversial 70-30%
sharing formula agreed with the labor unions
in the State is seen as factors that seriously
affected the man's economic conditions as his
wife could no longer support the family as she
used to.
The Igbo traditional Institution seriously
frowns at suicides no matter the excuse given
in justification. However, while many people
may not openly take their own lives, the toll of
hardship in the country and Imo State in
particular is throwing many citizens over the
edge and government at all levels need to
come up with quick and sustainable social
welfare strategies to ameliorate the effect of
this harsh economy on the people. |
