Snails are a very fecund animal---that is they have a high rate of productivity--I hear one snail can produce close to 200 offsprings at once. How come snails are very expensive despite their high rate of fecundity??
Is it that there is scarcity on Snails or is it very difficult to rear?

You asked a very good question up there.

Just like you said, they have a high rate of productivity. True but only applicable to two different species namely:
AF - Achatina Fulica
AA - Achatina Achatina

These species are like our chicken layers. Reproduction is rapid. They lay between 200-400 eggs per clutch. But the challenge here is A.A is very rear. Not common. Except very few farmers that got the balls to find and rear them.

The most popular specie around us are the
A.M - Achatina Marginata. Very popular. Problem is it lays between 5-9 eggs per clutch. Very small you'll say.

So that is the main reason why we have a very large amount of demand but very small suppliers available.

N.B All the above mentioned species take quite some time to attain maturity. Get into the group to learn more.
