Abia Crisis: Ogah Goes Underground As He Plots Swearing-in by iflywithbuhari(f): 11:25am On Jul 02, 2016
The newly appointed ‘governor of Abia State’, Sampson Ogah, has taken refuge at an unknown location in Umuahia, the state capital, as he awaits his swearing-in, an aide has told PREMIUM TIMES.
Mr. Ogah arrived Umuahia with the certificate of return issued to him by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Thursday, hoping to be sworn in that day or Friday.
But the incumbent governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, refused to vacate office, saying he had appealed the judgment that led INEC to withdraw his certificate of return.
In a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES late Friday, Mr. Ogah’s media aide, Peter Kalu, said his principal decided to take shelter at an undisclosed location to avoid being attacked.
Mr. Kalu said a lot of threats had been directed towards Mr. Ogah, saying the politician would remain in hiding as he awaits the emergence of the State Chief Judge, Theresa Uzoukwu, who had not been seen since Thursday.
Ms. Uzoukwu is believed to be hiding somewhere outside Umuahia as pressured mounted on her to administer the oath of office on Mr. Ogah.
Mr. Kalu said Mr. Ogah’s lawyers were currently working to ensure that he was sworn in within acceptable legal framework if Ms. Uzoukwu remained in hiding for too long.

He should better hide.

The court of appeal has the final say on this issue.. As the the current governor has a right to appeal.. And he has....
Ogar can't be sworn in when ikpeazu is still in office..
He should just wait on the appeal court judgment on the matter.

What if he is sworn in now, what happens to Ikpeazu?
What is he is sworn in and the appeal Court revokes the judgment and upholds ikpeazu's election?

So Ogar shud just wait patiently so as to prevent unforeseen circumstances..

PT failed me on the choice of words for their title this time. What do they mean by "plot"?? Does a recognised governor by law need to "plot" his own swearing in?? Is there something uncanny about his being sworn in after the facts??

Learned lawyers have lent their voices to this issue and have advised that Ikpeazu respects himself and the good people of Abia state by peacefully handing over to Uche to forestall any avoidable regrets.

Uche Ogah should relax and await the supreme court Judgement on this mater to avoid embarrassing himself. So if he is sworn in on Monday and the appeal court grants the stay of execution Ikpeazu filed what now happens?

BTW there is a valid court order stopping his swearing in so there is no how he will be sworn in

which stupoid learned lawyers!!! is thgis the first time in Nigeria that a sitting Governor will have his seat vacated by the courts and he yet stays put and appeals? why is this case different.

There is no how Uche Ogah would become Governor without been sworn in by the state chief Judge. He might be the Governor-elect going by the controversial Okon Abang Judgement but he will not be sworn in until Ikpeazu exhausts his appeal

Everything Ikpeazu does after the pronouncement by Justice Abang and issuance of the certificate of return is an illegality. By now, the Speaker of the state should be the Acting Governor and should be the one to handover to Ogah.

There's no need for that.He and the Chief Judge playing hide and seek will be prosecuted for obstructing the law once he's eventually evacuated from the government house. The Speaker is technically the one in charge until the new Governor -elect is sworn in next week.
I wasn't the one who advised him to use forged tax clearance certificate. Am I?

All this nonsense will cease to exist by monday when the appeal court rule for stay of execution on monday.

This coup failed when ikpeazu declared public holiday on friday and monday.the coup was schemed to swear in Ogah on one of those two days.

Ikpeazu is not in charge yet he declared a public holiday and it is holding!! Lol Uche Ogah will continue carrying an ordinary piece of paper until the supreme court rules.

BTW the appeal court will rule on Monday on the stay of execution

Pa Chuks, nor turn am to argument ooo (a nor get energy to expend on matter wey dey clear) but Ikpeazu goofed by not getting stay of execution before INEC issued Ogah COR... He may come back after SC rules (which is highly unlikely) but he is no longer governor.

You don't have to like or accept it but it's the LAW.

Which appeal? The kangaroo one in the corrupt Abia state high court under a state judge that abandoned her official duty because of a politician ? BTW, That runaway state Chief judge will be reported to the National Judicial Council for severe punishment and seriously, she just lost her job!!

The order of the federal high court should be obeyed then appeal. The lawlessness in Nigeria politics is taking another dimension cos no one is ready to obey the rule of law. According to SAN ikpeasu is no longer the governor of Abia and as such should submit to law.

Ogah knows what is at stake. He knows the law is on his side and he might get kidnapped if not assassinated.

Governor Ikpeazu lawyers should know there is a difference between NOTICE OF APPEAL and A STAY OF EXECUTION. He should not also forget that Abia High Court has a COORDINATE JURISDICTION with that of Abuja, none can nullify the judgement of another.

He should vacate the seat, the electoral act only allows the incumbent to stay in office if it was a post election tribunal and not PRE-ELECTION matters.

Peter Obi bounced back in Anambra when he was sacked. He should just let the law take its course.

Besides, where are those people who crucify Buhari for disobeying court orders?
