Until recently, I had never really thought about how Joseph felt when he got lost looking for his brethren. Here was the brave and smart dreamer, who was hisfather’s favorite wandering alone in the field with no sense of direction whatsoever. Joseph was smart and godly, Yes, but this time, he just didn’t know how to get through the field to complete his assignment.

Something must have challenged Joseph within him: “You thought you were smart and invincible. Or you thought you had it all figured out. Now you’re stuck, little Dreamer”. He must have been running out of patience with himself because by this time, he expected to have seen his brothers, but no, he was alone in the jungle. “Wouldn’t it be better for me to turn back now; may be I’m just not fit for this assignment” Joseph thought. But at the brink of giving it all up and losing it all, “a certain man” came out to Joseph and showed him the way.

We all need “a certain man” in our lives, someone to show us the way when we’re missing it. We need “a certain man” when everything seems to be wrong. We need “a certain man” when we can’t figure out our way forward. We need “a certain man” when the clouds are thick and dreams fade away. You need not give up on your dreams. You need not return without reaching your goal. Find your “certain man” and you would have found your way.

Jesus is the certain man, the way to the kingdom of God. And at certain points in our lives, we need instructions from the “certain men’ who God has placed in our lives. We need a mentor, someone who has been in the field before we arrive there. For Joseph, the field was not like home. Home is the place of dreaming. On the field, dreams meet with reality. Many people lose their dreams in the field. Some others give up and return home. But a remnant makes it through the fields. Those are the ones for whom their “certain man” shows up. May you connect to your “certain man” today.
