But when i try using php on CLI (via SSH), the default there is 5.2 (i need to be able to use 5.5 on the command line as well) - some of my critical projects rely on this - without this feature, I cannot deploy them on godaddy.

Amazon saved my ass when I couldn't do php socket programming in siteground.

Its way cheaper than their dedicated hosting packages

I use bluehost, and it does everything as well. I shall try amazon later.

Yes I do. Service is very ok. You get a to launch your own server with your preferred OS running and much more. Though a cloud server you don't pay more than $80 depending on package you selected. I use the following specs

Well it's $10 on DigitalOcean http://digitalocean.com and there's a 1 year free tier on AWS http://aws.amazon.com.
Linode is beans.

For what configuration? What I quoted was for a much higher spec which $10 on Digital Ocean is not close to it.

You pay for what you use, you can start out with $10/month and pay more as you use more. This is just the basic/scratch price for beginners it'll cost more to get a high spec virtual server (but it's still relatively cheap compared to Linode)
