Cant be compared bro. We laid our foundation on deceit, whilst the other nations did otherwise. But Osaze no suppose dey cos na over-age hin be. When last did you hear of Agali, Agahowa and the likes? Ronaldinho, Xavi, Casillas, Keita etc still dey. They all have a thing in common which is Nigeria '99. No be only us e dey happen to sha, as no be everybody go reach top. There are lots of promising talents from other countries that did not live up to expectation. |

The one i find funniest is Macaulay Chrisantus. Dude was banging in goals anyhow like he was Pele at the u-17 tourney in 2007. Scored goals with so much beauty, it felt orgasmic at times. Many Nigerians thought we had found our own Ronaldo Delima. It is unbelievable that the guy never made it to any top division club. Only played for 2nd team of clubs. Funnily, he is still just "25" years old. There is still hope, he is still "young". Anytime i see Toni Kroos, i remeber Chrisantus and just smile. Nigeria dey try 1 Like |

I think it’s too simplistic and naïve to blame “age cheating” alone for all these cases. Some of these guys simply found themselves in a bad situation and it ended their careers. And I should know because I played college soccer here in the United States. During our time, it was an open secret that you (the black guy) have to be twice as good as the white in order to play ahead of him. And that threshold increases if you’re an African with “a thick accent”, then you’d have to be 3 times as good to play. I still recall that in those days, I can score 2 goals but if we lose the coach would blame me….he’d ask why I didn’t score 3. But when we win, the other players would get most of the credits for the win! Oh my, that was definitely one of the worst experiences of my life. Hence, I can tell you that as an African, you’ll find yourself on the bench once you have a couple of bad games whereas your white team mates would get opportunities upon opportunities to improve….black players don’t have that luxury. That’s what happened to Obinna Nsofor at West Ham United. For months, Nsofor was their best player but, as soon as he had a couple of bad games, he got relegated to the bench. The same thing happened to Victor Moses at Liverpool. And it’s very difficult to find another club if you’re not playing day in day out at your current club. And that’s how most of these guys were frustrated into early retirements. And by the way, did you realize that even amongst the names you listed, most of homebased players are still active while their foreign based mates are retired. In addition, some of these players (Ogbuke Obasi, Apam, Anichebe, Odemwingie etc.) stopped playing due to career ending injuries. I am not excusing age cheating by any means but the issue is much more complicated than mere age cheating. O pari 2 Likes |
