Some Nigerians love shifting the 'goal post' when their own people drop the ball. people here are berating the oil workers for their greed while absolving the FG of blame. but under GEJ, the common refrain was that 'the Buck stops on the President's table', despite the government then always trying to show why certain demands are unreasonable. well, the shoe is on the other foot now, the oil workers are greedy, that's no doubt, but the buck stops on Buhari's table now, he should deal with it... karma is a real pain in the nether regions... 2 Likes |

freeze001: If those were the issues, why didn't they take them up with the previous governments that accrued the debt? Why wait till now? Or did they just suddenly realize they are being owed money? It's just silly. Did they strike over this during either presidents Yar'adua or Jonathan's eras? Why make things even more difficult now that everything seems to be in a sludge? Between the Yar'adua and Jonathan administrations (especially President Jonathan's), all prices were at an all-time high, meaning it would have been easier for government to service debts. Why didn't they approach them then when the money would have been easier to access? Why now? |

senbonzakurakageyoshi: If you read through comments you'd have seen a lot of people saying that they're used to their strikes and it's not d first time and all that. That tells u they aren't just starting now to complain or raise issues. It's been ongoing and for some reason, successive governments failed to be alive to their responsibilities. I am certain though that these and many more issues gave rise to the #CHANGE mantra that ushered a new govt into power. They are there to fix n change things as promised so there are 2 things here: first, government and governance is ad continum and secondly, it's time to walk d talk. They are in office to make things right and in better ways. I am sure u saw that on 2 different occasions after previous inconclusive negotiations, this govt deliberately failed to meet and continue talks within d last 2 months. A June 30 meeting was cancelled without any explanation or rescheduling obviously creating the impression that they're not prepared to face their responsibility either so that begs d #CHANGE question. Again, I'm quite certain u saw d efforts and measures put in place by Ibe Kachikwu to help meet up d NNPC cash call. I do hope now that he has been unceremoniously removed as has been expected in line with d northern agenda displayed in this current regime, that they will continue with his innovation and even improve since in d mind of d present president, only his northern brethren seem to be d more competent ones. Finally, it is not just a previous government matter. All of dem follow chop inside from Buhari to all members of govt both past n current. Governance is not expected to be a walk in d park but if smoothly and intelligently engineered, it can be effective in delivering d goods for expectant citizens. It becomes an uphill, herculean task though if sensitive areas of governance are placed in d hands of dull, clannish, vindictive, unintelligent but highly greedy and nepotistic persons and u know d implications on the economy and d people. Well after d race we shall call d results. No one is expected to make things easier for d government, they ought to make things easier for you and I. blueto:Do you know their demands? These people are selfish. They can't be doing this in the interest of Nigerians. We should not always criticise the Govt, let us always think like Nigerians not like members of any party. |

asuustrike2009: I'm sure they intended to start after d holidays cos this announcement has been on since Monday. It's not their fault that d moon and its whereabouts now plays an active and seemingly relevant part in governance today hence the inevitable need to extend the holidays just because d moon didn't show up when expected. |

What are their demands? Are they feasible? The truth is they had better be careful, because the strike might not have the desired effect considering the fact that most oil marketers have been struggling with sales. So most of them still have PMS stored that they really want to sell. I always buy fuel from forte oil, same as most of my hommies. So for forte oil to be complaining about a 40% decrease in sales, then they should know that people are not even really buying. The whole oil sector is just funny. The marketers complained of scarcity before subsidy was removed and scarcity and queues dissipated and ended immediately after the removal. So my question is what do they really want? |

Greedy PENGASSAN. When will you strike against the employment of only family members in oil multinationals. Is employment into oil multinationals now an inheritance. One family will have five or more brothers and sisters in an oil multinational. We need justice not just strike because of selfish reasons alone |
