To further strengthen  the  Nigerian Police to fight crime in Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has donated additional  20 Patrol Vans fitted with state-of-the-art communication  equipment  to the security  agency.

The governor and the 23 Local Government Areas of the state had on two previous  occasions  released 110 patrol vans to security  agencies  operating in the state.  The latest donation brings the number  to 130 security  vans fitted with communication gadgets.The governor  also facilitated the release  of  dedicated telephone  lines to the police for faster response to residents in distress.

 
Governor Wike  further released bullet proof vests and helmets to the Rivers State Police Command.

Making the presentation  of  the  security  facilities to the Rivers State Police Command,  Governor Wike represented by the Permanent Secretary of Government House, Port Harcourt, Mr Onyemachi Nwankwo assured all security  agencies  operating in the state of his commitment to assisting them with the required  logistics to perform .

 He noted that the Rivers State Government  will continue  to  play her role in the strengthening  of the state security  architecture,  so that people can continue  to peacefully   live and do business  in the state.

Governor Wike  commended the Nigerian  Police for her efforts to enhance the security of lives and property in the  state.

 
Receiving the patrol vans,  Rivers State Commissioner of Police , Foluso Adebanjo    commended Governor Wike  for responding to the demand for  facilities that will help nip crime in the bud.

He urged eminent persons and the general public to cooperate with the police on the issue of providing useful information towards enable the force bring down criminality down to their barest minimum in the State.

Also speaking , Chairman, Traditional Rulers Council of Rivers Sate,  Amayanabo of Opobo Kingdom King Dandyson Jaja called for collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA to fight crime.

He identified the abuse of drugs as a factor responsible for the increase of crime in the State.

I will applaud our govt; fed, state and Local govt councils on their effort at equipping our security agencies.

But I abhor the way the said police officers handle these equipments. Upon the monies they net daily from checkpoints and bails, even wielding the iron which they use to hang on is a problem and not until the local govt council provides such monies, they will decide to take it down.
