Barely a month after the sex scandal involving the Head of Department of English, University of Ilorin, Dr. M.S. Idiagbon, broke out another lecturer in the Department of Social Work, Faculty of Business and Social Sciences, Mr Saliman Salahu has been caught sexually harassing a female student.

The name of the female 100 level student simply as Alima, the lecturer had first asked the student to come to his office and on getting there he started making sexual overtures to the student but she refused and managed to slip out of his office. However, the lecturer will not let go as he started making phone calls to the female student asking her to meet him in a place in town. The lecturer also sent some amorous messages to the girl on WhatsApp and Facebook calling for an affair which the girl refused. The girl soon became fed up after the lecturer threatened to make life miserable for her in the department of Social work for daring to reject his sexual advances. At this point the girl wrote a letter of complaint through one Prof. Y. Quadri of the faculty of Arts protesting the abuse. She attached the phone conversations between her and the lecturer and other exchanges via SMS, Facebook and WhatsApp as the evidence of harassment.

It is not yet clear if anything is being done to bring Mr Saliman Salahu to book. In the meantime, Alima continues to live in fear of persecution in the department.
