Minimum 6months, maximum 9months.

In my own opinion, dating should be between 6-12 months before engagement. Also I believe before two people gets engaged, they should be ready for marriage. And before you say you are ready for marriage, you have to be financially, emotionally, mentally and socially ready. So, between engagement and marriage should not be more than three months max.
