The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has launched a Trust Fund aimed at boosting its incomes for critical assignments.

The umbrella Christian body unveiled the Fund in an email notification to Christians across the nation on Monday evening.

It said the Fund was established at its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on July 9, 2014 “mobilise critical funding that will enable
Christians respond to the threats and challenges posed by the global Islamist movement.”

Each Christian in the country is expected to donate N500 monthly to support activities of CAN.
The Fund, according to the association, would be used to rebuild devastated Christian communities and infrastructure, especially in northern Nigeria.

The devastation, it said, was caused deliberately by “Islamists in their bid to wipe out Christianity in Nigeria.”

CAN added that the Fund raised will also be used to support Christian victims of the insurgency.

The Christian body further stated that the Fund will also foster its financial independence from government influence and interference.

To assure transparency in the Fund, five trustees have been appointed to manage the Trust.

They are: Lt. Gen. Joshua Dogonyaro (Rtd) of TEKAN/ECWA; Dame Priscilla Kuye of CSN,Justice Kalajine Anigbogu (Rtd) of CCN; Mrs. Osaretin Demuren, Chairman GTBank of OAIC and ex-CBN deputy, Tunde Lemo of CPFN/PFN.
