LE GUEN AT A GLANCE
Born on March 12, 1964, Le
Guen last coached Oman — a job
he was relieved of in November
2015 after an unimpressive start
to the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
After accepting the job in June
2011, he led the southeastern
Arabian country to qualification
for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup,
which they didn’t qualify for in in
2011. The Omanis won one and
lost two to crash out of the
tournament in the group stage.
Before then, Le Guen had a
successful managerial career in
France, most notably leading
Olympique Lyonnais to three
consecutive Ligue 1 titles
(2002-03,2003-04,2004-05). He
has also managed Stade Rennais,
Patis Saint-Germain, Glasgow
Rangers and the Cameroon
national team.
He won the Coupe de la ligue in
2008 with Paris Saint-Germain.
Since his first coaching job in
1998 with Rennes, he has
overseen 519 games, winning
245, drawing 128 and losing 146
— representing a win percentage
of 47.
Named Cameroon coach in July
2009 on a a five-month contract,
he started on a high by leading
the team to qualification for the
2010 World Cup in South Africa.
However, Cameroon were the
first team officially knocked out of
the 2010 World Cup. He
announced his resignation on 24
June 2010.

this same lagerback coached Iceland in the just concluded euro 2016,,,and Iceland drew Portugal in the group stage, they won against England in the round of 16...i believe it's the Nigeria players that have problem.

Frankly, based on the entire body of work alone, the best candidate for the SE coaching job was Goran Stephanovic. Go check his records with Ghana and other places he had worked. But then the Nigerian factor kicked in....I can bet that he didn't get the job because Paul Le Guen was willing to give a bigger kickback angry

Rubbish!
Le Guen should rather learn from Salisu Yusuf.

The only reason why Guen would be picked is the colour of his skin. What can he do that Yusuf cannot do?

In other professions,Nigerians are among the best in the world. The forex to be wasted on foreign coach should be used to further develop our coaches.

Short cut to success, via a foreign coach,is a short cut to perpetual underdevelopment.

On the aggregate, our local coaches have achieved more than the foreign coaches we had engaged,so what the hell?

It is certainly better to swim or sink with a Nigerian coach, than to swim or sink with a foreign coach.

NFF now has made a good choice. Guen surely got the pedigree. Having won three French League Cups and also known to give talented young players a chance.

We'll definitely qualify for the World Cup. French football is tactical.

So what has been Guen's achievement in the last 4 years?

Those who think the solution to Nigeria's football woes, is a foreign coach should have their brain examined.

Our local coaches have won more laurels than the foreigners.

On a more practical note, tell me what le Guen,a coach that was sacked by Oman for non performance, would bring to Super Eagles that Yusuf cannot provide?

What has le Guen achieved since his sack from Oman?

If you must eat frog, then get the fattest one.So if you must hire a foreign coach,go for the best or world class coach, such as the one that have won a world cup and still VERY active and consistent with good performance.

You are obviously much more ignorant than I!

Shouldn't we rather be talking about the competence of whoever the Nff is bringing to manage our team rather than this white coach/ black coach back and forth?
Our players playing abroad, aren't they expatriates in their various clubs across Europe?

I see the reason Nigeria is rated among the most racist countries in the world.

The argument should be what Salisu will bring to our team and what could Paul Le guen add to our team.
Even if Paul is joy the most sought after coach in the world. Is Salisu the best we could get from Nigeria?

Egypt have Hector Cuper 2 time champions league winner and we saw how he resurrected their team.
Ghana have Avram Grant a champions league finalist, Morocco have Harve Renarde 2 time Afcon winner.

Paul Le guen is a 3time French league winner with lyon, French cup winner with PSG,Qualified Cameron for the 2010 world cup with a few games to go. while Sanusi's Cv reads that he have managed Niger tonardoes and won the NfL with Kano pillars (via board room points).
What exactly will these two guys bring to our team? That should be the argument!

Truth be told. Our problem isn't coaching though ability to maintain dressing room relationship hygiene is important which the coach and its crew with the team captain has a responsibility for but the team and most sectors in the country presently lacks passion and genuine dedication for what they do. Until our mindset is progressively positioned, we can never get it right

The same lagerback just took Iceland to the quarter final of the Euros.

I think the problem with Nigerian football goes deeper than the coach.
