MANCHESTER UNITED star Anthony Martial’s new shirt number might just have been revealed.
The 20-year-old joined the Red Devils in a £58million deal last summer.

And he was immediately handed the number nine shirt, previously worn by the likes of Brian McClair, Andy Cole, Louis Saha and Dimitar Berbatov.

He didn’t crumble under the pressure attached to the iconic figure, just as Radamel Falcao had done the previous season, though, notching 14 goals and providing five assists in 49 appearances.

However, it appears he will have to wait to have nine emblazoned on the back of his shirt once again.

A leaked image from United’s new kit launch, scheduled for July 23, appears to show Martial holding a shirt with two numbers on it, rather than the single figure he wore last season.

Speculation is now rife that he will start the season in the number 29 shirt, last worn by Old Trafford flop Wilfried Zaha.

The number nine shirt is unlikely to be vacant for long though, with new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic poised to be handed the spot on United’s 2016/17 squad list.

The 34-year-old hitman last wore the number nine jersey during his stint with La Liga giants Barcelona, and has since been number 11, 18 and 10 at AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.
