The department of Statistics in University of Abuja was full with glamour and cheerfulness as students of statistics department celebrated their statistics week in style.

One of the highlight of the statistics week was the showcasing of cultural attires by student of the department.

DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS HISTORY

The science of statistics concerns the development and application of the most effective method of collecting, analyzing and interpreting data in such a way that the fallibility of conclusions and estimate can be assessed by means of logical reasoning based on measures of probability. It deals with the designing of experiments and surveys, testing hypotheses, studying relationship among two or more variables, among other scientific method. These method have wide applications in such diver’s fields as in industry, business, government, educational institution, agriculture, meteorology and astronomy, engineering, medicine, social science and the liberal arts.

PHILOSOPHY, OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE OF THE PROGRAMME

In accordance with philosophy of the University of Abuja, the programme aims at equipping the students with the best basic knowledge in probability and stochastic process, design and Analysis of Experiments, statistical method and inference, sampling techniques, quality control, operations research and statistical computing. It is designed to develop the skills and the necessary intellectual orientation required by the students for subsequent career as a statistician.
