Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Jama’atul Nasir Islam, Sa’ad Abubakar lll

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar lll, has condemned the brutal killing of the traditional ruler of the Kulere people, in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, Saf Ron Kulere, Sir Lazarus Agai.

Agai, who until his gruesome murder on Monday by some yet-to-be identified persons, was a first class traditional ruler and Chairman of the Bokkos Traditional Council.

He was killed while returning from his farm in his village, Sha, along with the son, orderly and wife.

He spoke while paying a condolence visit to the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, in his palace in Jishe, on Wednesday.

The Sultan described the act as abominable while calling for religious peace and harmony.

He cautioned the media against jumping into conclusion over the recent killings of Nigerians, by linking it to herdsmen.

He described the action as barbaric, adding that those who committed the heinous act of brutality against humanity should know that every human being is equal before God.

Abubakar urged residents to live peacefully with one another in respect of their diverse ethnic and cultural differences.

He said, “You don’t take somebody’s life, because life belongs to God; and it is only He that determines when and how a human being would die.”

Abubakar called on Nigerians to expose the killer of Saf Ron Kulere, stressing that “there are people whether herdsmen or farmers who don’t love peace and would do everything to foment trouble.

“We should go back to our cultural system and fish out the bad eggs among us by partnering security agencies.”

He regretted that the incident happened at a time peace was gradually returning to Plateau.

He said, “We are very delighted to see the return of peace and we pray for its sustenance. Without peace, there can’t be meaningful development in the state and the country.

“We want peace on the Plateau. As traditional leaders, we can go extra mile to bring peace to our communities. We are brothers from Adam and Eve; so we call on religious leaders to preach tolerance.”

Responding on behalf of the Plateau Traditional Council, the Chairman, His Royal Highness, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, thanked the Sultan for responding quickly to the incident.

He asked the residents not to allow the incident to disrupt the hard-earned peace in the state.

Buba said, “Security is everybody’s business; we must not sit down and begin to accuse security agencies of lapses. What is happening is unfortunate, but the solution is collective and we must join hands with the security to fish out undesirable elements in our midst.”
