The prestigious and famous cooperative Society according to information available to us is heading into oblivion. The society under the Pastor Patrick led administration failed to sustain the society handed over to him by his predecessor. In his first tenure the society recorded a case of fraud ,which involved one Mr Efa stealing a cheque booklet from the then society treasurer Mrs Ekaete Odidi.Efa forged the signatures of the president and treasurer and withdrew about ten million naira from the account of the society in unical Micro Finance Bank. The then vigilant treasurer noticed the irregularities in the statement of account and called upon the president Mr Patrick Ibiang to launch an investigation. The investigation revealed that Mr Efa used the money to build two houses in calabar. The then treasurer involved the police in the investigation and their efforts led to the sell of one of the property at the rate of five million naira. The bank UMFB also paid the society one million naira for laxity on their part making the amount recovered six million naira. The remaining four million was spread for about five years and serviced through house rent on one of the property. A police report that cleared Ekaete Odidi of involving in the fraud was given to Patrick Ibiang which led to the council of inspection clearing her. Since the exit of Ekaete Odidi the society witnessed more fraudulent activities by the present exco members. The cooperative building cost about five hundred million naira of equity investment of cooperators. This led to backlogs of loans payment ,delay in payment of ICAS and delay in payment of 2014 dividends. As the society holds her AGM on the 28th of July 2016 cooperators are reminded to insist on the following (1) that electronic voting be rejected in totality as suggested by Professor Florence Obi and her cohorts (2) that all members of the exco including Patrick Ibiang step down after the AGM (3) that elections be conducted before the end of August 2016 (4) that the society account be frozen to avoid undue withdrawals (5) that eleco be comprised of members with integrity (6) that management of Unical should stay clear on cooperative matters especially the bursar Mr Peter Agi.
