Comrade Eric Omare, the spokesperson of
the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide has
berated the Nigeria Army over its recent
comment to launch a major offensive
against the Niger Delta militants sabotaging
facilities in the oil-rich region, should the on-
going dialogue between the federal
government and stakeholders in the region
fall through.
According to Omare, the statement by the
military is wrong and ill timed.

Speaking exclusively to NAIJ.com, the Warri-
based legal practitioner also noted that the
statement has raised eye brows on if truly
the federal government is ready to dialogue
with the agitated militants.
Omare said: “That statement by the military
is in the first place wrong and ill timed.
Secondly it brings to the fore the mindset of
the government which is to deliberately
frustrate dialogue and launch unwarranted
attacks on the innocent people of the Niger
Delta region.”
Omare also declared support for dialogue
with militant groups but advised President
Muhammadu Buhari to desist from insisting
that the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable. |
