Ajara Ewuro must be a retrogressive person. We should learn to appreciate small gestures. Every great revolution the world over started by miniature moves by certain individuals. One is free to his own opinion but please let's keep saner ones and not digress from the real issues.

People like you do not belong to the new Nigeria we all are craving for

ATTENTION NIGERIANS IN THE UK

One of the Nigerians at Ibori trial yesterday was assaulted by supporters of Ibori. Also their supporters (outnumbering Nigerians) in court threw disdainful and threatening looks at Nigerians observers.

Now I am doing a call out Nigerians to troop to court on everyday and show these people that WE WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED HERE AS WELL.

Cabinet shake-up: Yar’Adua’s list ready • 8 ministers, 1 aide affected • Travels to Saudi Arabia today
Lanre Adewole and Okey Muogbo, Abuja
Tuesday, September 22, 2009

NEWS oozing out of the seat of power in Abuja is suggestive of an imminent cabinet reshuffle by President Umaru Yar’Adua, which is likely to sweep away a top government functionary and about eight ministers, just as the president has concluded arrangements to travel to Saudi Arabia today.

Nigerian Tribune gathered exclusively that the top government functionary appears to enjoy a very cozy relationship with the Nigerian leader and his appearance on the sack list was said to have shocked many of those in the know about the coming cabinet shake-up.

The top government functionary was moved a step higher in the Yar’Adua administration, when the former occupier of the post was controversially sacked by the president after coming back into the country from an equally controversial trip abroad.

The president who has developed a knack for dropping bombshells, when either travelling out of the country or just coming back from such trips, was said to have also planned the imminent shake-up in view of his trip to Saudi Arabia.

One of the ministers, said to be on the sack list is reportedly the most controversial in the Yar’Adua administration.

Though one of the favourites of the president, close associates of the Nigerian leader were said to have persuaded him to dispense with the services of the minister, who they accused of bringing the administration into disrepute on a daily basis.

At a point, a powerful security officer in the administration was said to have stepped into his alleged ‘many sins’ and relating them to the president, when it reportedly became obvious that he also had his sympathisers in very sensitive positions in the seat of power, who were allegedly putting in favourable words for him with the president and shielding incriminating documents about him from the Nigerian leader.

According to a source, “his (the minister’s) days are more than numbered. Of course, he’s among those to go.”

He is also said not to be leaving anything to chance as he is said to have also been working round the clock to stop his sack, by getting those who have the ears of the president to help him convince Yar’Adua that those asking for his removal were not doing it for the benefit of the nation.

Another minister, also said to be on the sack list is from a state in the North-Central.

He mans a ministry which is seen as very crucial to the economic development of the nation, though many agencies under the ministry are moribund.

It was learnt that he touched a raw nerve of the president when he had problems with some prominent members of the elusive but powerful Katsina mafia, even though his state governor, reportedly, recently visited Abuja to plead for him.

He was said to have become a marked man after the problem with the influential group.

A female minister reportedly became an automatic candidate on the list after a lacklustre performance in two ministries.

Non-performance is said to have been a major negative factor against other ministers said to be on the list, with the administration reportedly repackaging for a greater and better service delivery.

Meanwhile, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), on Monday, denied that he was chased out of a London hotel during his recent visit to London to clear himself of allegations of shielding corrupt persons in Nigeria.

A statement issued in Abuja by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Taye Akinyemi, read in part: “It may, therefore, be educative for me and other Nigerians and the world at large, to know if this hotel takes exception to this minimum practices or whether the national daily and the so-called Nigeria Liberty Forum, the organiser of the so-called telephone protests, have a mutual working agreement with the hotel to set aside this standard practice.

[b]“It is important to establish this fact in view of the unprecedented intelligence available to the leader of the Nigeria Liberty Forum, who within 24 hours was aware of a visit by a serving Nigerian minister to the UK and within the same period was able to mobilise Nigerians across the UK and the globe to bombard the Marriott Hotel with unprecedented phone calls to make a minister on international assignment for his country “abandon” the assignment and return home.

“Marriot Hotel at Heathrow and elsewhere is a five-star hotel. Anyone who has ever been a guest at any standard hotel knows of fliers such as “do not disturb.” Once this notice is hung on the doorknob, the hotel management is obliged to obey this simple request.

“I wonder what will happen if Nigeria invokes the principle of reciprocity in international relations to subject visiting minister to such terrorism by other means. I was amazed at the capability of the newspaper for investigative journalism until I became aware that the story was just a regurgitation of the gossip as carried by Sahara Reporters in its lead story of the preceding day.

“This to me is significant for one reason. Perhaps the said national daily was the only newspaper that extended patronage to this online service in respect of the story, unlike in the past when this online service appears to be the “mother of the media” in Nigeria.

“Whenever a medium is established for a purpose, a personal purpose for that matter, sooner or later, that purpose may be achieved or lost. When either is attained, the demise of the medium is as assured as the rising of the sun.

”I wish the national daily and Sahara Reporters the best as they strive to achieve their purpose.”

Meanwhile, President Yar’Adua leaves Nigeria today for Saudi Arabia on a working visit.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, in a statement, on Monday, said the visit was at the invitation of the Saudi Arabia monarch, Abdullah Bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud.

According to Mr Adeniyi, Yar’Adua would, during the visit, hold talks with King Abdullah.

He would also be the guest of honour at the opening of the new King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.

“President Ya’Adua will, at the invitation of King Abdullah Bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud, undertake a working visit to Saudi-Arabia from tomorrow, Tuesday, September 22.

“President Yar’Adua is scheduled to hold talks with King Abdullah in the course of the visit and participate as a special guest of honour in the opening of the new King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.

“The president will also meet with the leadership and members of the Nigerian community in Saudi Arabia before returning to the country on Saturday,” the statement added.
He did not deny it. Did he?

Does anyone know if he is one of those to be dropped? I wish!

Unfortunately for these supporters, London is equipped with CCTV everywhere either inside or outside the court room. They may look threatening but to be honest that is all they can do. If anyone assaults the other, they will get nicked and will make it much easier to get them to jail even before the people they support. I am very sure they too know that they are not in Nigeria where they can bribe the Police to destroy CCTV evidence. Even if there are no CCTV evidence, there are always people who can be a witness.

he came out in yesterday's papers lamenting that 'some people' are trying to paint him in bad light so as to throw a wedge between him and yar-adua. can you imagine such nonsense! grin
