The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig-Gen. Paul Boroh (retd), has said ex-Niger Delta militants will start receiving their stipends on Monday.

Boroh consequently appealed to the ex-militants in the region to shelve the planned protests scheduled to hold on Monday.

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Head of the Media and Communication Department of the office of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Abuja, Mr. Piriye Keyaramo.

The coordinator, who expressed concern over the plight of the ex-agitators in respect of the delay in the payment of their stipends, explained that President Muhammandu Buhari appreciated their patience and the challenges were being addressed.

The statement read in part, “President Buhari attaches so much importance to the Amnesty Programme, which explains why the President in his inaugural address to the nation specifically promised to invest heavily in the projects, and programmes currently in place for the ex-agitators in the region.”

Boroh added that the Federal Government planned to improve the amnesty programme for the benefit of the 30,000 ex-militants and other youths in the region.

“President Muhammandu Buhari, is already putting together a youth development and empowerment package that would directly impact the ex-agatators and other youths in the region,” he said.

This is wrong.

You do not reward criminals. The Militants should be getting jail terms, and not money.

This is very wrong.

Peace costs less than war. Imagine if we had negotiated from the start. No oil installation bombings. No power outages. Increased revenue. Funding for capital projects. Dare I say we may have averted this present quagmire of recession. The payments are a small price for peace & development.

Modath, you can see that the only language understood in this country is violence.

The northerners threatened the nation with violence and got back their presidency.

The fulani herdsmen are also trying to use violence to make us hand over our lands to them as grazing field.

2 things.

1. Did the FG ever declined paying the 30,000 ex agitators on their payroll? The same one that have been since '07? If you are not sure, kindly research biko, don't be like your acolytes.

2. Are the scavengers' nonsense demand being entertained in anyway shape or form?

Violence indeed!!! We've seen the oil blocs, express roads, better living etc Continue with your mischief, u do well smiley

So , FG is paying terrorists ??

i know some people will cheer them on , that they finally suceeded with the scam they have been planning all along

But when Amnesty and rehabilitation for boko haram was discussed, they cry wolf and start shouting up and down

Anyone shows up for registration , they should be arrested and detained indefinitely

I thought the sherrrifat in town who is also the lord and saviour of yorubas, threw away the Amnesty file because he had guns and bombs and wanted oil to flow to katsina by force.

I blame all pass and present government on these problems facing Niger delta. If they have developed those areas with federal might d way they did in Lagos and Abuja, I believe there won't b any issue of agitation. Also government should force the multinational companies to also develop the oil communities. If there are jobs or the environment there is favourable, boys go dey busy.
