The Enugu State Waste Management Authority ESWAMA has changed motor parks and transport operators in the state to carry out routine cleaning exercise in their parks to ensure a safer environment.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, ESWAMA, Mrs Amaka Anajemba gave the charge on Saturday while monitoring the level of compliance during this month environmental sanitation exercise.

Mrs. Anajemba who expressed dissatisfaction with the poor sanitary condition of major parks in the state encouraged residents to support the state government’s commitment towards making Enugu one of the cleanest states in the country.

She said the agency will continue to put measures in place to ensure efficient waste management.

Members of the national youth service corp fully participated in the exercise.

Meanwhile, the agency arrested 170 persons who violated the state monthly cleanup exercise while 12 vehicles and 2 trycicles were impounded.

Areas monitored included Okpara Square, Presidential Road, Ogui Road, Ogbete, as well as Agbani Road and New Market.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, ESWAMA, Mrs Amaka Anajemba - Hold on, hold on - is this not that 419 woman who had her husband killed when she found out he was to remarry due her not producing any male heir

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A court in Nigeria has sentenced a woman to two and a half years in prison for her part in the country's biggest ever international fraud case.
Amaka Anajemba admitted helping her late husband to persuade an employee of a Brazilian bank to transfer millions of dollars into overseas accounts.

Banco Noroeste lost $242m through the latter half of the 1990s.

The court ordered Anajemba to surrender her houses in Nigeria, the US, UK and Switzerland to help repay the money.

Massive investigation

Anajemba is one of three suspects - the trial of the two other defendants has been adjourned until September.

She was convicted of convincing a senior official at Banco Noroeste, based in Sao Paulo, to siphon off the hundreds of millions of dollars in exchange for a promised $13m kickback on a fictitious contract for an airport in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.

The prosecution case was built up after an international investigation involving the authorities of more than a dozen countries.

The fraud was discovered in 1998 when Banco Noroeste was bought by a Spanish bank.

The Brazilian bank official, the company's head of international operations, was arrested three years ago during a trip to the US and extradited to Switzerland, where he was jailed for more than a year.

Widespread corruption

Most of the funds have since been recovered.

The judgement has been greeted enthusiastically by Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission which described it as a landmark achievement.

The BBC's Anna Borzello in Nigeria's commercial capital Lagos says that the country is notorious for its advance fee frauds.

Known as four-one-nines after the Nigerian criminal code prohibiting such practices, greedy or gullible investors are invited to hand over money or bank account details on the promise of large future payments, which never arrive.

In its most common form unsolicited e-mails offer the recipient a share of the wealth of dead African dictators.

At least, someone is posting something on environmental sanitation in other states.

The way Nairaland carry LAWMA news, one would assume Lagos state is the only Nigerian state with a Ministry of Environment. Good to know beyond Lagos, we have other 35 states.

Only in Nigeria can a convicted criminal get a high government position. As someone mentioned in an earlier post, this lady Amaka Anajembamba is famous for all the wrong reasons. She even ran when the authorities held her three kids, yet she wants to instill discipline. Anyway, the day I was told Abacha was not corrupt was the day I realized that [b]ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE IN NIGERIA
