As someone that has spent a great deal of time at FUTA , I decided to share this piece with you.

There are so many federal universities in Nigeria. Nigerians who graduated from Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) would be able to relate with the things that would be discussed here. And for those who are still in the school, all the best to you o.
FUTA is one school that would toughen and shape you. Futarians often say whoever attends the school without picking up life lessons may never be able to learn anything in life because of the series of experiences they have had.
Find below some of the experiences those who attended FUTA can relate to:

1. When you have struggle differentiating Obanla and Obakekere

If you have attended this university, you would know how confusing it could be for a fresher to get accustomed to Obanla and Obakekere.
The school is being divided into these two parts. Every student keeps wondering what is with the name. Students have to move from one part to the other daily, if you are unlucky, you could make that journey as many times as possible.

Where were those names coined from?

2. When there is a long queue for bus

You definitely do not want to join the queue for bus on some days. There were times students got wounded while rushing for bus. If you are not smart, you may end up trekking from Obakekere to Obanla where most of the lecture theaters are located.

If you are going somewhere urgently, kuku trek

3. When everyone you come across speaks Yoruba funnily

Relax, you will get used to it. You are in Ondo state; you may not hear the refined Yoruba spoken in Lagos and other parts of the country. You will be forced to pick out familiar words when people around you speak in order to blend.

4. When you are told to bring fresh pooh for medical test

What is this for crying out loud? There are series of tests that would be run on you during the registration period as a fresher. You would be given small bottles to pee and pooh in as part of the procedure.
The best thing is for you to submit these things quickly, if not you would have to pour them away and give them fresh urine and pooh. Chaii, FUTA students have suffered.

5. When boys start to look at you

Except for now that things are starting to change, FUTA has a high population of boys. The ratio of boys to girls is like ten to one. Boys gawk when they see fine girls in the school as they would do all they could to gain their attention. Every girl in FUTA is beautiful and hot.

6. People get to know you are a fresher when you carry drawing board for MEE 101

Just when you start to blend in the school, some courses would always spoil your parole. MEE 101 is one of those courses; every student must do it. That is the annoying course that makes you carry a drawing board and T-square round the whole school. That is the signature of most freshers.

7. When you see your result after first semester

This is one school that allows you make as many mistakes as possible. Freshers who are all over the school get tamed when they see their first semester results. That is when everyone gets to adjust and focus more on their academic life.

8. When FUTA bread becomes a life saver

This school made bread has been saving lives since forever. Taking FUTA bread and a bottle of coke would give you going for several hours. This is the stage where you do not have money to go eat at SUB. Chinedu’s rice is the most expensive in the whole school.

PS: I'll post a picture of the bread when I'm able to lay my hands on one grin

9. The way students rush to ETF and LT for lectures

FUTA students can read for Africa; they do not joke with lectures. People would run for space when it comes to receiving lectures at these places.

10. When an Akindeko boy visits you

Most of the boys in the hostel are hungry. They would visit girls in Jibowu hostel in order to eat food there. They also go off campus to teach the girls in their class who would cook for them in turn.

11. When students go to Chapel of Faith because of their party food

Chapel of faith is the interdenominational church within the school. Students turn up at this church when they hear there is a party. That is the church where movers and shakers of the university attend.

12. When girls turn up for JDV parties

There are some parties you do not want to miss in FUTA because of the series of things the organisers put into consideration. Girls would always dress up for tight events like this even though they have tests the following day.
This is not like the regular parties that may put you into trouble when bottles are being broken. Remember the list of suspected cultists is regularly updated.
