The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is intensifying investigation on former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, reports Punch.

The EFCC is investigating allegations that the former governor embezzled N108bn during his tenure as governor between 2007 and 2015.

Akpabio was first quizzed by the commission’s detectives last year following series of petitions written against him, reports News 24.

One of the petitions was forwarded to the commission by an Abuja-based lawyer and activist, Leo Ekpenyong.

Ekpenyong had on June 8 petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari and the EFCC, calling for Akpabio’s probe and accusing him of looting Akwa Ibom state treasury.

Ekpenyong was summoned on Wednesday, June 17, to adopt his petition and provide more details to some of the allegations he made against Akpabio.
