I beg to disagree with you on this. If salary is not enough then they should look elsewhere for a better salary.

The ones I even hate most is that of the security guys at the gates. They want to you to settle them before they do their duties. What is this country becoming! This is seriously appalling OP. To make the matter worse, SERVICOM that should checkmate this is also part of the problem!

I don't have an issue with civil servants like you do though I have to meet with staff of govt agencies and ministries regularly. My own problem is the private sector junior workers, someone always wants something from you.

I am as frustrated as you are. The situation is worse with SUBEB and local govt. officials. The irony is that those not taking kickbacks among them are happier and good looking, while the 'sharp' ones are sickly and without peace of mind. The consequences are with them.

Civil Service is the bedrock of corruption in Nigeria.


Working in the civil service, I can boldly tell you this: corruption at the grassroots far outweighs that at the top, it's like a pyramid or a foodchain. That's why when Buhari says he is fighting corruption simply by hounding top politicians, i just laugh. He hasn't even scratched the surface of corruption.
Fighting corruption has to do with systems and orientation. Somehow, GEJ was getting it right when he wanted to use scientific methods, though he also got many things wrong.
Corruption is here to stay.

Go to Delta state, you'll know the difference between kickbacks and bribes. They negotiate percentages of your money sef.

If their salary can’t sustain them, why can’t they resign? What’s their job, and why are they employed in the first place? Are they doing favor to the public by performing their required responsibilities?

And these are the people that point accusing fingers at politicians.

I once went to one of this govt agency to do my wrk, I usually tip and go my way....this particular day I met a man shouting and arguing..... that is not going to pay a kobo to bribe anyone..do you knw @ that point Ppl ignore him and face other Ppl n wrk for them,the man stood There for hours... eventually agreed to pay the tips,wen he discovered that Evn the boss Jst ignore and pass him by...

He ended up paying more than the tips......

To me ohh,you can Jst tip and go ur way,someone Lik me I Dnt Lik delay.....even wen I was in skool I culd see queue of clearance,I will Jst go tip do my tin and go....

Kickbacks are sometime given to their boss... to you, you feel the do not,but they do....

I like your honest confession. I guess you abhor queues even in banking halls and elsewhere. So tipping comes naturally. It gets the job done unfortunately. The less priviledged bear the brunt

The bolded part actually revealed your orientation about life! What if everyone you met on the queue decided to tip and jump the queue? Your type would never be allowed to jump the queue wherever I'm on such queue, you want die? But I think they should not be so abrasive about it. The nurses are something else. I went for treatment recently, and was placed on injection. The nurse demanded for tip after I have payed heavily for the treatment. I had to agree seeing her with the menacing needle aimed at my innocent bum. I no fit shout

Because the government allows it. They are not monitored and properly dealth with. It is seen as hussling and dividend of democracy . This trend is a national disease which even goes on in our airports

Some of you might have resigned to fate, accept the defeat and embrace corruption with open hands, not my headache. But when you said that people shouldn't complain or they too should see themselves as helpless and comply, then I can pick fight with you. There's this conoil filling station at Area 1 Round About in Abuja, anytime you want buy fuel in kegs for generator, the attendants always insists that you'll give them additional money from N150 if not they won't sell to you. They will even tell you to go and meet their manager.
It's sad because that's how businesses die without the owners knowing it. Employees killing business because of greed.

its not necessarily all, but its very broad, a huge majority are into it. Whenever there is a new oga at the top, things appear to improve. if you go to such offices, at such times, they do the right thing but once they new Oga has settled down their old habits creeps back into action.
Civil service is the bedrock of the Corruption in Nigeria, they influence new ministers and other govt appointees on how to exploit the system and they share the loot. At the lowest level, they treat as if they are doing you a favour and you MUST " appreciate" them.

tips should be optional...smth of appreciation for a job well done...but wat op means is dis forced extortion. I think many of us Nigerians hv finally accepted such as normal and dats y sm ppl are even supporting it.
