Best Fixes For A Freezing Laptop Touchpad You Can Try By Yourself! by anthonypeters(m): 8:37am On Aug 08, 2016
A laptop with a freezing touchpad can be very annoying as you won’t be able to scroll through your laptop screen to perform every operation you want to perform. Below are fixes you can try all by yourself.

1. Restart: This is one of the most popular fixes ever known to any computer user. But most often, this may only be effective when the freeze just occurred. This is almost useless when the touchpad has frozen a long time ago. Also it can be a useless fix if the touchpad is no longer working at all. Nevertheless, restarting your system can reboot the system software and hardware thereby correcting any error(s) that may have caused a freezing touchpad.

2. System Reset: You can also reset your PC to an earlier date before the freeze occurred. This is mostly effective if the freeze was caused by a malware or driver that was installed into the PC. By resetting the PC to an earlier date, the system removes any software that may have caused the freezing. System Restore can be accessed in a Windows PC by following these simple steps: Press the Windows button>>All Programs>>Accessories>>System tools>>System Restore, then follow the simple instructions to restore your PC to an earlier date.

3. Drivers: The main reason for most frozen touchpads is drivers. Absence of touchpad drivers, Corrupted drivers, outdated drivers, and wrong drivers top most other reasons for freezing in laptop touchpads. If you noticed your laptop touchpad just started freezing after you installed a new driver, then you should uninstall the driver. Also, installing touchpad drivers can correct some touchpad malfunctions. Obviously, you can update your touchpad driver from your PC control panel. Updating your driver most times can fix touchpad errors just as installing the wrong driver can make your touchpad malfunction.

4. Wrong Power Adapter: Wrong power adapter Yes!!! Wrong, malfunctioning, inferior and substandard power adapter causes touchpad freezing. You may not believe it but if you have a freezing touchpad, you could unplug your laptop from the power source and check your touchpad again, if its working perfectly, then you’ve got to change that adapter. A wrong adapter sends the wrong amount of voltage and/or current to the motherboard, this in turn inhibits the laptop touchpad from correctly interpreting the direction and movement of your finger across the touchpad sensor, this in turn causes a freezing touchpad. Did you get that?

5. Wrong Function activation: Another typical solution to a freezing touchpad is FN key + Most laptops uses a combination of the function key and some other key to activate or deactivate the touchpad. It could be FN+F1, FN+F2, FN+F3, FN+F4 etc. depending on the PC. Ultimately, you could look up your PC keyboard to find out if there’s any FN key (FN keys are those keys labelled F1 to F12) that bears a symbol that looks like a mouse, if there is, then either pressing it could activate and/or deactivate the touchpad, or a combination of the “FN” key plus that FN (F1 – F12) key bearing the mouse symbol could activate and/or deactivate the touchpad. This is supposed to be a shortcut for switching on and off the Touch pad. Also in some laptops (mostly hp laptops), double clicking at the tip of the top right hand section of the touchpad can activate and/or deactivate the touchpad. Most of these laptops have an indicator LED that glitters when the touchpad is turned off, others bores a kind of little “hole” (hp 650 touchpad is shown in an image below with an arrow pointing to the “hole”) at this corner to show the particular spot this function could be performed. hp 650, 655, 630 etc. has this little “hole” on its touchpad to indicate where this function could be performed.

6. Hardware malfunction: Hardware malfunction in relation to a freezing touchpad is a broad thing and can only be fixed by qualified engineers/technicians. Some hardware complications, malfunctioning touchpad sensor, amongst other hardware problems can also lead a frozen touchpad. And if you’ve tried all these fixes listed above and your laptop touchpad still freezes, then you have to click in so we can fix it up.
