Arsene Wenger has admitted that he spends Arsenal’s transfer funds as if they’re his own.

The 66-year-old has come in for criticism from fans for his reluctance to spend big, as rivals Manchester United are about to on Paul Pogba.

‘I personally believe the only way to be a manager is to spend the club’s money as if it were your own because if you don’t do that you’re susceptible to too many mistakes,’ says the Frenchman in upcoming book, Game Changers.

‘You make big decisions and I believe you have to act like it’s your own money, like you’re the owner of the club and you can identify completely with the club.

‘Because if you don’t do that I think you cannot go far.’

Gunners supporters may not like the sound of this, with the squad currently looking short in the striker and defender departments – and the north Londoners not seemingly close to any signings.
