So it’s been a while since I last engaged my super nerd mode and was in the mood to do some serious tinkering both on hardware and software. I had a little change saved up and decided to do convert an old pc I had lying around into a HTPC https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_theater_PC. I originally had an Acer Veriton 6900 Pro PC which in it’s hey days was a beast. Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 / 1.86 GHz
1GB DDR2 SDRAM 533 MHz (2 x 512 MB)
250 GB (SATA 1.5Gb/s 7200 rpm)

So, based on the above specs, I started my research on the parts that will be needed to give the pc an extra boost in its functions. I also needed to make the system a long term archive for my large collections of files (anime, movies, music etc.). With that in mind, I started shopping around on Amazon and finally settled on the below parts for my upgrade;

UPGRADE:

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6700 (4M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Crucial 1GB DDR2-800 UDIMM (DDR2 PC2-6400) x4 (Total 4GB)
2GB DDR5 EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti Superclocked Graphics Card
Seagate Desktop HDD 2 TB (3.5in 7200rpm 64MB Cache)
Intel® SSD 520 Series (120GB, 2.5in SATA 6Gb/s, 25nm, MLC)

I was restricted in some aspects based on the motherboard and in some by the resources at my disposal. But I was able to balance the mix of performance and price. I finally ordered the parts and commenced the upgrading process in earnest. I was especially eager to finish before the July 29th deadline given by Microsoft for the Windows 10 free upgrade as the system was on Windows 8.1 Pro.

This would be a great pc if completed....I would like have an idea of the total price of the hardware....want to build a gaming as I think my laptop can't cope anymore.
Hp 15 notebook.
Intel core i5 2.4ghz
RAM 6GB.
Nvidia 820m 2gb.

Does that mean I could change my laptops graphics card? It has just 32MB dedicated video....can't really get that right now.
