This could have been during the civil war. What are they trying to investigate? Clear the ammunitions and let the community have their peace biko. Glaring cases are there all over their faces that are yet to be investigated na this one dey their mind. Silly things.

my friend ak47 has been in use since 1949 and made popular in the Hungarian revolution war of 1956 then it became present worldwide in 1956 so it was also used during the Biafra war
bullets shown in the pic are for ak47 variant model 7.62mm*51 produced years after the civil war ... plus nigeria produces that variant of ak47 ... and as such can be nigerian made.. hence police know dis and want to do an investigation

Did they make use of AK-47 during the civil war? Was such a weapon out then? These bullets are just filled with mud thats all. I dont think they were buried more than 5 years years. Whosoever buried those bullets had heavy plans, probably to carryout a bank robbery, political war or intend to use it if a civil war should break out again.

How did this information got to the police? if the person who reported the matter to the police skiped the authorities in the community and rushed to the police, then he should be sanctioned internally because the authorities in the community are in the better position to deside matters of this nature to the police, and police has no business in Agulu community for almost 10 yrs now after their station was razed for killing an innocent indegen in his community over twenty naira. Since then Agulu people has been successfuly protecting them selfs, I wonder the kind of survellance they are planning to station their again, mine is for them not to go and disturb the existing peace in that area.

Oga, a 7.62mm round is a 7.62mm round. It will fire from any such breech block. The variation in rifle rounds has nothing to do with the calibre but the mechanics of the bullet in the jacket and how it reacts when fired. Apart from custom made munitions which are very expensive, it is impossible to attach a specific bullet to a specific rifle of the same calibre. They should just carbon date it and do their archeological studies.

Oga don't beat yourself up trying to sound knowledgeable, someone who lives in the locality has already confirmed that the catchment is remnants from the civil war buried by soldiers. The land has been fallow ever since until it was purchased lately.

Wrong.... all 7.62 are not the same..
the russian made rifle uses a 7.62*39mm bullet which can also fire a nato / US 7.62*51mm bullet... but a NATO built 7.62*51mm chamber gun can not fire a 7.62*39mm successfully the pressure of the nato. .51mm gun can cause the .39mm to explode in the chamber....
now there is a big difference btw the 7.62 *39 and the .51mm the size of the brass head will let you knw.. that is why i knw it was not the bullets from russia nor civil war...

Good enough the person who purchased the land is a prominent person, not someone who'd be extorted or have allegations placed on them.
local talk.. where is the official police report.. or u close the case too?

The mindset in the east is capable of upsetting one emotionally, there seem to be so much effort to clanishly cover this huge and disturbing discovery. This same people will come out and cry victims at the drop of a dime. Shame on all of you.

those bullet belong to an automatic rifle presumably the AK47... and as such it isnt the civil war bullets... someone bought them had no need for them again then buried them.... i think it was bought during election period by politicians.. or the biafra agitators...
metal will always corrode if buried without proper care but bullets take very long to corrode... even at that i suspect its just dirt (soil stains) on the bullets... apply water and they are good for use...

Ak-47 was invented in the 1940's, civil war was 1967-1970. If they had no need for them, they'd sell them the same way they were bought. You dont have to counter a plausible argument without facts. These are likely civil war cache, explains why it'd be buried without protection.
