Why we launched Screen Naija Open Air Cinema in 2013.
The open-air cinema, or “cinéma en plein air” is becoming very popular all over the world with the largest single day audience at an outdoor screening of a movie in Africa when around 10.000 people gathered to watch a screening of ‘Fighting the Silence’ in Mulo village on the 21st of August 2011 in North Kivu, DRC. But now millions are watching movies on their mobile phones when they don't have electricity or generators as long as they have charged their batteries.

There are only 0.4 cinema screens to 100,000 people in Nigeria and it is very small for millions of movie lovers in Nigeria and the present locations of the few movie theatres are not the most appropriate in terms of demographics, because more thousands of people drive for miles to get to the nearest movie theatres, because they don’t have anyone in their local government areas. But all that will soon change with our Screen Naija One Village, One Cinema Project and Screen Naija online to take cinemas to the people in their various communities from street to street and from the street to the internet.

We have decided to take Nigerian movies from the street to the internet to reach more than 125 million Nigerians online every month and millions of others in the world who will like to watch Nigerian movies, music videos, news videos and documentaries 24/7.
