The entire Twitter community went wild.
Nigerians on Twitter were especially
delighted to see two popular musicians of
Nigerian descent on the list.

WALE

At number one, we see the song ‘LoveHate
Thing’ by Wale. Wale is Yoruba, never mind
that his name is pronounced like some
foreign name now. He was
born, Olubowale Victor Akintimehin on
September 21, 1984.

Wale rose to fame in 2006, when his song
“Dig Dug (Shake It)” became popular in his
hometown. The song Obama loves is from
his album ‘Gifted’ released in 2013.

His parents are from southwestern Nigeria
and came to the United States from Austria
in 1979. Wale’s family first lived in
Northwest, Washington, D.C., before
moving to Montgomery County, when Wale
was 10 years-old.

He graduated from the
Quince Orchard High School in
Gaithersburg, Maryland in 2002 and later
moved to Largo, Maryland in Prince
George’s County.

He is also the cousin of the actor Gbenga
Akinnagbe, and was in Nigeria two years
ago, to perform at a Johnnie Walker event.

JIDENNA

With his song ‘Classic man’ at number 7.
Jidenna’s coming of age song, has more
than made a name for itself.

Born Jidenna Theodore Mobisson on May 4, 1985,
Jidenna is a Nigerian-American recording
artist signed to Wondaland Records.
In 2015, Jidenna released two singles,
“Classic Man” and “Yoga”, promoting the
label’s compilation EP The Eephus.

He has been signed to the Janelle Monáe’s label
for a while. Jidenna’s father Oliver
Mobisson is a Nigerian Igbo academic.
Jidenna grew up partially in Nigeria, where
his father was a professor of Computer
Science at Enugu state university.

In 2008, after graduating with a Bachelor of
Arts degree, he pursued his music career
full-time, moving between Los Angeles,
Oakland, Brooklynand Atlanta. Jidenna has
said that his major influences in music
include KRS-One and Big Daddy Kane.

Jidenna, son of professor Oliver Udemmadu Mobisson.
Professor Mobisson, old school Igbo academic.
When professor Kenneth Dike, first African Vice chancellor of University of Ibadan and distinguished professor of History Havard was commisioned to build the first Igbo university , Anambra state university of technolgy ASUTECH, Mobisson was among the first brains he contacted.
Even Achebe out of respect joined Dike to build the Igbo university despite having a good job at Nsukka.
Once prof Dike died, sectionalism, nepotism, incompetence crept in.
At the exit of professor cyril Onwumechili as VC Asutech, (Dike's successor) things finnaly fell apart.
Mobisson was one of the few holdouts, he didn't go back to the US.
Haba after coming back to the motherland?
He continued, leading his students to award winning innovations ,but the stress was telling on him.

Professor Mobisson, suffered a delibitating stroke from which he never recovered from.

Adieu Udemmadu Mobisson, your son is making waves, and most importantly, he never hid his Igbo identity.
He has made us proud.
