A former Chief Judge of Delta state, OFR (Rtd) and Former Delta State INEC Chairman & National Vice Chairman Honourable Justice James Omo-Agege, OFR (Rtd), is dead. He is the father of senator Ovie Omo-Agege currently representing Delta central at the senate. He was a reputable judge who sentenced the infamous Anini, Monday Osunbor and Inspector Iya to death by firing squad in the 80s.

A statement released and signed by his son, Obaisi of Urhoboland, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege disclosed that the patriarch died on Thursday, August 18, 2016.

The statement tagged, OUR PATRIACH, JUSTICE JAMES OMO-AGEGE HAS FINISHED HIS RACE, reads:

“Our dear father and patriarch of the Omo-Agege Dynasty of Orhomurun Orogun, Honourable Justice James Omo-Agege, OFR (Rtd), former Chief Judge of Delta State, transited to glory today, August 18, 2016. He lived his eventful life as one of the finest jurists in our nation’s history.

“Without a doubt, our father’s legacy is a most courageous, dignifying and glorious one. We are grateful for his life of absolute honour, dignity, and patriotism. His love for the rule of law and the judiciary is etched in history for all time. We can only celebrate his greatness.

“May we humbly ask for the earnest prayers and support of all our friends and well-wishers at this solemn moment in our family’s life. We shall communicate more as the circumstances may dictate.”

Headship of Delta Judiciary on inception in Aug. 1991 was very stable. Hon. Justice J.O. Akpovi who was the incumbent Chief Judge of Bendel State merely relocated from Benin to Asaba. That helped in no small way to pilot the affairs of the young Judiciary. He nursed the state for three years. His successor even had greater period.

Hon. Justice James Omo-Agege consolidated the administration for five consecutive years. His administration is on record as the longest any Chief Judge had been opportuned to stay in office since the creation of the State. Justice Omo-Agege’s retirement saw Honourable Justice Akpirorho as Acting Chief Judge before Honourable Justice M.C.U. Odita took over as substantive Chief Judge. When he retired Honourable Justice Akpomudje acted as Chief Judge before Honourable Justice Mrs. M.A. Okungbowa was sworn in as a substantive Chief Judge. and in January 1st 2011 Hon Justice Z.A. Smith was sworn in as Chief Judge of Delta State and retired on 4th May, 2015. On the 5th day of May, 2015 Hon. Justice Marshal Umukoro was sworn in as Acting Chief Judge of Delta State. On the 28th day of May, 2015 Hon. Justice Marshal Umukoro was sworn in as Chief Judge of Delta State

Does that mean Wicked men Don't die?
Does it mean that most Eulogies are cosmetics.

Waiting to see the day people will be happy that someone is dead to pave way for good unborn people

This man was a friend of my late Dad who was also a barrister. He was one of the few Judges with Unblemished Records... Never took bribes and upheld the integrity of the court of Law... I wish they would make him a Thesis, and people like him is what we need in our Judiciary...
