Here are four great footballers Pep Guardiola fell out with in his managerial career:

1) Samuel Eto’o:

Eto’o had scored 36 goals in the treble winning Barcelona side that were almost impossible to beat in the 2008/2009 season.

But his goal poacher status couldn’t save him from Guardiola’s might.

In his first media briefing, Pep announced publicly that Eto’o had no place in his team.

The Cameroonian was subsequently shipped out to Inter Milan in the deal to bring Zltan Ibrahimovic to Barcelona.

2) Ronaldinho:

“When you play with him [Ronaldinho] and see what he does with a ball, nothing surprises me any more. One of these days, he will make the ball talk.” — Eiður Guðjohnsen.

Ronaldinho’s time at Barcelona was decorated with so many trophies, and individual honors, including two FIFA World Player awards.

The signs were clear that Guardiola immediately found Ronaldinho, who was plagued with so many injuries in the 2007/2008 season, surplus to requirement when he took over the Barcelona job.

The great Ronaldinho was eventually shipped to Ac Milan, a deal Guardiola happily endorsed.

3) Dante:

Dante was signed to Bayern Munich for an estimated fee around €4.7 million.

He immediately made an instant impact, eventually cementing a place in the starting XI. Perfect.

His team-mate and club captain did not waste time to heap praises on the player.

“Dante is one of the best defenders I’ve ever played with.”– Philip Lahm said.

Records were broken too.

Bayern Munich broke records for fewest goals conceded and most clean sheets in a Bundesliga season during their treble winning campaign, with Dante in the heart of defense.

Guardiola came on board to Bayern in the 2012-2013 football season and what a time for Dante to show his worth again to the new Boss? Right?

Except, in Dante’s first game under Guardiola, the defender scored an own goal after a mix-up with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Recurring errors by Dante forced his manager to sign Mehdi Benatia as a quick replacement.

Dante was subsequently sold to VfL Wolfsburg for an undisclosed fee.

4) Yaya Toure:

The expeditious rise of Sergio Busquets in the beginning of the 2009/2010 season was what you will term as “Bad Market” for Yaya Toure at Barcelona.

And Guardiola didn’t waste time to promote Busquets to the first team at the expense of Toure who was eventually sold.

Now Guardiola and Yaya Toure are in Manchester City and the episode is likely to repeat itself.
