We counted them from where we bought them from and had them labelled for each pond each pond carriers approx 4,700 pieces of fish. The water is continous and keeps draining itself naturally that is why it is earthen pond. the water was not drained on purpose but it drained itself and fresh one came out after liming and manuring the pond.

Bush Rat weighted close to 2kg it was lovely.
It is actually cheaper to run an earthen pond than a concrete pond in reality operational cost wise it is cost saving but geeing the land can be a problem as You have to move from Your comfort Zone unlike concrete that can be constructed in Your back yard.

Harvesting is easy Bro its almost like catching fishes in a river as You have to use nets and two people have to man the net try and read http://www.arkshore.com/tutorials/ You would get alot of info.

My total budget has been overshot by fencing though but it is all good need to secure Your investment as it is both real estate and Agriculture too see the budget so far but Feeding would eat almost that same budget as I am budget N120 for each fish to eat. 120x18500=2,200,000

thanks mr kaykaymil my God bless u aboundantly , i try with 2000 juvenile , to 4 month in earthen pond , but the cost of feeding them was very hard on me i had to dry them up. but at a lost becouse out of that 2000 i only get 1300 out of the pond. pls help me out with ur links and video. to learn more and correct my mistake.

Now after all of that I have stocked the pond with 18,500 pieces of Juveniles not fingerlings. Fingerlings are too fragile for earth pond and would require heavy sorting after one month. juveniles of about 4-6 weeks old were procured at 20 naira each from Kado market in abuja from a reliable dealer.

There are many reasons why You had that much:
1. Either there was not much sorting when buying the juveniles because adding shooters can be detrimental in some cases. Like in our case we had to sort them out from counting stage to all equal sizes to reduce cannibalism.
2.You didnt lime the pond before stocking your juveniles to drive away predators from the water like frog, snakes, old fishes
3. disease outbreak.
4. Security man double crossed You.
5. You were not prayerful

Choose the ones You missed out and correct them next time You would have a bountiful harvest.
