Kamarudeen Ogundele, Ado Ekiti

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has backed the call for the restructuring of Nigeria for true federalism.

The governor said it was strange that the All Progressives Congress, which was at the fore-front of the agitation for true federalism was now against restructuring as the ruling party.

Fayose, in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, stated that Nigeria was returning to full-blown unitary system of government “under the present APC government of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

He said, “It is on record that the APC said at a debate on ‘Addressing the rising insecurity in Nigeria, what is the master plan?’ organised by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) on December 18, 2014, that it would ensure true federalism and ensure adequate community policing through the establishment of state-controlled police so as to curb the protracted security challenges in the country.

“Sad enough, now that it is the ruling party, the APC is no longer talking about true federalism, especially the state police that it canvassed while in the opposition.”

Governor Fayose, who said States must be strengthened for the country to develop, noted that Nigeria developed faster in the 50s and 60s when it was practicing confederal system of government, with the regions running its own affairs almost autonomously.

“A situation where there are mineral resources in a State and the State cannot do anything about them without approval from the Federal Government will not foster the development that we all yearn for.

“A situation where the federal government has turned itself into lord and master over other federating units in the country, using federal agencies to oppress even State governors is not acceptable.

Honestly, after the June 12 imbroglio, Many in the west, Tinubu inclusive have all been in the fore front in the fight for a total and complete Restructuring of the Country via a full National Sovereignty Conference. One in which each federating group will table their wishes, etc.
But because of this their marriage of convenience with Buhari, many of them have chickened out. Most especially Tinubu and his boy, the VP. There is God O.

APC was not ready to rule rather they were just eager to enter into a business venture called acquiring power. Now they are enjoying their business while their investors suffer

I rebuke every spirit of Buhari that wants to take your life backward just like he has taken Nigeria backward in Jesus Name.

Senseless Governor. If true federalism is realized and the FG decides that states fend for themselves, what would Ekiti State fall back on?

Wait oo, true federalism is good, we all agree. But what I'm curious about is why didn't PDP, the same party to which this blabbermouth belongs, see to its establishment in 16 long years??

Were they plain dumb or what?

This man is a clown.

Soon as they lost power at the top, they now clamor for a devolution of power so that they can continue their evil deeds at the local levels with no thought or conscience.

If you cannot do any good with the little power you have, what more can you achieve with an overwhelming one?

Pesin wey go help no dey wait until him make one million before him dash beggar hundred naira. Because the instant you make that money, na car levels, beggar no go take eye see you again.

I'm not against fiscal federalism of any sort, as it wouldn'thave any impacts on me personally. But truth be told, it's more of the same.

Soon as powers get devolved from the center, these self-interested individuals have the tendencies to make it seem farther from the populace than it ever was. Talk about things changing right before your eyes.

When even your own local government chairman becomes hard to reach soon as he becomes.

ask me oooo. Not when we are collecting our money n bringing to justice all that made true federalism difficult. This executive criminal and sudden apostle of True federalism thinks mouthing Atiku's new political cliche would make him escape from the consequences of his misdeeds . Let him start true federalism in Ekiti by exposing the state's financial records to the workers, citizens and the opposition so that their inputs can be harvested and used in 'increasing' the state's IGR at least for a start . mtchew! ponmo dictator wan teach us true federalism.

There won't be any Ekiti state because the only form of restructuring that makes sense to us Igbos is the abolishment of all states and reverting to the regions.
