The Vice President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday night, led other Nigerians in a vigil of prayers for peace and prosperity to usher in Nigeria’s 49th independence anniversary.


At the function, he assured that the present administration was determined to do its best to solve the nation’s problems. He also expressed confidence that the President Umaru Yar’Adua administration would not let Nigerians down.


The occasion was the pre-jubilee prayers tagged ‘National repentance for restoration,’ organised by Nigeria Jubilee 2010 Group, under the chairmanship of former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon.


After leading the congregation in prayers for unity, peace and rapid development of the country, Jonathan said it was a good thing the event coincided with Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting where, he said, “we deliberated seriously on how to move this country forward.”
