Afe Babalola University Bans Smartphones On Campus, Twitter Users React by finalboss(m): 10:10am On Aug 29, 2016

In a new notice released on the 28th of August 2016 via the website of Afe Babalola University, fresh and returning undergraduate students for the 2016/2017 Academic session were briefed on new rules, including the ban on smartphones. In their words,

"Mobile Phone ; The University would allow students to use telephone but limited to non-smartphones. Any TELEPHONE aside the University’s specification, inclusive of TABLETS or IPADS shall be CONFISCATED and the Student shall be SANCTIONED"

Twitter Users (some students) however
expressed displeasure.

How does a ban on smartphones affect the student's attitude towards their studies positively?

A serious student with or without a smartphone would excel.

At a time when the world is gradually advancing technologically? So if I am given a research work, I will only stick to the knowledge provided by the school library? Or always go to the cafe for it?

This is like the doing the wrong thing at the wrong time.

No more googling of answers sharply during test.

Chinko wen get 2 sims go still be CHINKO!!!!!!!

The decision is like a two edged sword. How would student be able to research (get solution to academic problems) on the go?

Yes, they have a cybercafe or ICT centre et al, however the handiness of smart phones makes researching and knowledge finding easier and fun

Even caritas uni and maddona uni had to lift their ban on smart phones after so many years, some rules can't just work with youths, ask fr edeh
