It think You need to uninstall some programes. If it still continues. FORMAT THE SYSTEM.

Do you have norton installed ? ok, turn off the laptop please back on again dont wait for anything keep pressing F10 on your keyboard until you see a blue screen that says BIOS SETUP UTILITY use the arrow key to go down to diagnostics primary hard disk test then press enter and make sure your laptop is plug into the mains as the test can take 1hour to complete

if you have time try the Memory test as well bear in mind this can take forever if the laptop didint find anything then that means is fine. just incase you booted into the Bios and cant see diagnostics well download and follow this tool i use@ my workplace http://support.packardbell.co.uk/uk/item/index.php?i=6917050600&ppn=P660400401

does work with any machine.Let us know if you pass the test if you then you"ll be looking at resetting the whole lot back to square one. you need backing your data before you can do this like you were previously adviced. if the HD test fail then your hard drive is neckered just a case of finding a specialist to repair it.

first of all why don't we find out what is using you cpu the most?
in taskmanager click on the processes tab, then click on cpu so that the list of processes is ordered by cpu usage; the process that has the highest cpu usage (apart from system idle process which is actually an indicator that your cpu is free) is probably hat is slowing it down and yes it usually tends to be the antivirus.
Formatting the system without first finding why it is slowing down is not the best solution 'cos it may turn out to be a program that you usually use and if you format then install the program then you come back to where u started from in the first place

thanks all am trying to run a test on d hard drive and memory now, guess that will take d wjole of today-I dont mind if it gives good result. I dont want to format the system cos I believe formating should b after evrything fails.I checked d taskmgr noting is using up d memory except d task mgr that's runnin. I use McAfee Antivirus-original not otigba. I'll get back to u guys when am done. Thanks again.

Well its a normal thin on Vista OS, even my Windows 7 does that at times I just shut down and restart my system that's all.If this issue persist download and install Tuneup 2009, if you dont have the key I can generate one for you here. Use it to check programs that are running, programs that you donr really need and they are using up your RAM.

use alt+printscr not just printsc so that you just capture the taskmanager

or bring up run and type cmd then tasklist after which you need to press enter

Thanks every1 for ur suggestions ma system is better now. I updated my antivirus and scanned the whole system. I also uninstalled some applications. the memory test and hard disk test shows d system is ok.av attached the results of the processes in task manager.

Is in .doc format, but it contains screen shot. glad she got it working anyway

now that you have fixed it, try and remove some of your unnecessary start up programmes. always run a daily system optimization with ccleaner and tuneup utility.
