Fayose was wrong to enact such laws in the first place. The fulanis have the right to live and work in ekiti just like every other Nigerian. Why ban their business of cattle rearing when they have no other means? Why criminalize the fulanis as if all fulanis are killers? There are bad eggs amongst every tribe, why do we make it look like violence is exclusive to northerners only. The people we should frown at are cattle rustlers who steals cattle from fulanis and use them as disguise for their evil deeds. The fulanis are peaceful people who go about their business in peace and we all know they control their herds of cattle with mere sticks. Even though we call them primitive, how many southerner can rear cattle for national consumption like the fulanis? Without them how do we see beef to consume? The rustlers are armed terrorist escaping from the north east to the south. What fayose should have done is to forbid any herdsmen from moving around with weapons, not banning cattle rearing completely. If all states cooperated with the FG on creation of grazing reserves throughout the country, there will not be a single cattle left on the streets looking for grass. Instead we chastised president Buhari's brilliant policy in the name of islamization. The ripple effects are the incessant attacks by the rustlers. The grazing bill remains the best and safest option. Not unnecessary bans sad

It seems you lack the ability to comprehend simple English.
Fayose only banned open grazing. Anybody who wants to rear cattle should acquire a ranch simple!

@ Flokki I hate to make comments. Do you have brains in your skull at all? I'm not a fan of Fayose infact he did something terrible to a family. However he has done well on the trajectory massacre by herds men ravaging some part of the country. Infact we need far more reaching measures. Another thing is I doubt if you ever read the post. If you read the post, you will understand that Fayose took a more lucid approach which still permits grazing but with time restrictions/arms. You see people like you have beclouded your judgement with hatred and partisan politics or parties. The problem of Nigeria cut across political divide. The problem is a failed organizational structure of governance. Young people like you should learn to think

The new law should be exported from Ekiti state to other parts of southern Nigeria especially my own state Enugu where the menace of the herdsmen are on the increase and the state governor seems to weak to proffer any solution to tackle or put a stop to the continues killings of his own people rather than shedding crocodile tears anytime such massacre occurs. Some one should tell governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi not to rely solely on the FG in protecting the good people of Enugu State, he should look inward and possibly imitate what Fayose has boldly and courageously done. Governor Ugwuanyi should stop acting like woman, his frequent tears wont save nor protect his people he needs to act like a man. my heart bleeds for my people whose been governed by a weak element

Interesting but foolish write up......
if I come to ur state to do my private business.... do I just use any land I see there .....iI guess not, I will rent a house, buy a land or rent a store...
if the fulani herdsmen want to do their private business of cattle rearing. ... they should buy or rent lands in any state to do their business and stay in that land with their cattle rather than invading other people's property..

How much tax revenue is cattle rearing contributing to the nations economy. ....
is a private business and should be run privately. .. if d private of a group is posing a security treat to a state... the governor has rights to protect lives and properties of his people cos that's his first responsibility

Stop talking with sentiments. Grazing bill is the solution

Will it kill private individuals engaged in the business of cattle rearing to purchase or lease land, establish a ranch and set up their stock within the confines of their property? Why should the FG have to dabble into private businesses and even create a commission for cattle rearing? Why must they traverse the length and breadth of every village, city n state in this country? If they must do so as is their right remember that the constitutional right is for freedom of movement of persons and not animals. The state reserves the right to regulate the conduct of business within its territory, herdsmen cannot go about at will especially at night when they go to perpetrate their nefarious and murderous activities.

Are you ok? Creating federal reserves for private businesses? Why should we support that. Those private owners shd sort themselves out. The real owners of these cattle are not poor.
Nevetheless, i believe the problem is not one-sided. People shd not steal their cattle and the herdsmen shd not kill when provoked. Government shd seek and arrest herdsmen with AK 47 or other sophisticated arms.

That is how weak most of these Lilly livered chickens of governors are. When Yerima came with his Sharia issue that year, what happened? It became the song of governors and people of that part of Nigeria. Try to move a truckload of beer through the northern part of the country and see what happens to you, despite the fact that alcohol is not prohibited as far as I know in the Constitution of Federal republic they so much make reference to when it serves their purpose. They also support that with the claim of protecting the overall interest of their people. Where is that Constitution when federal character was jettisoned in appointments? It's sickening to realise that paddy-paddy syndrome has its most inhibiting effect on the governors from the south. I would love to be disappointed as I know Fayose's line is not likely to be toed anytime in the near future by our ass-licking leaders down the Niger.

Simply put. No area is available for reserve. Cattle rearing is a private business, why can't they build ranches as the practice in USA the world largest produce of beef. My governor should emulate fayose and even put advert campaigns on the dangers of consuming red meat.

In as much as I dont usually agree with fayose's opinions or actions most of the time, I have no choice but to laud this new bill. we should remove the hypocrisy and tackle the brass tacks. Fulani herdsmen are not the only one doing business in Nigeria, why should the be given unlimited license to commit genocide in the country? Is it the government that rents me a shop if i wanna start a saloon, or buy me a generator if i want to open a beting shop, so why shouldnt cattle rearers invest in their business and create ranches for their cattle, at least they can afford it. Why should the cattle be allowed to roam freely unhindered in others farms and villages while murdering the inhabitants in the process? It is totally unjustifiable and inexcusable. What should the rearers in Argentina be doing? They should have killed half of the population because they rear ten times the cattle we rear here.

Herdsman arrested with AK 47 rifle, live ammunition in Enugu
August 31, 2016

Ihuoma Chiedozie, Enugu

A herdsman has been arrested with an AK-47 assault rifle and 24 rounds of live ammunition in Enugu.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who announced the arrest on Tuesday, identified the herdsman as Ibrahim Adamumale.

Adamumale, said to be about 20 years old, is from Nasarawa State.

He resides at Hausa Quarters in the 9th Mile Area of Enugu, but rears cattle in communities within the Udi Local Government Area and environs.

It was gathered that Adamumale was apprehended in a bush in Affa community, in the Udi area on August 29.

Amaraizu explained that the herdsman was in possession of the “sophisticated” weapon and ammunition when he was accosted by policemen and some members of the community.

He revealed that members of the community had earlier informed security agents about the herdsman’s violent activities in the area.

Amaraizu said Adamumale fired several shots into the air in an attempt to evade arrest, stating that the shootings did not deter the policemen, who eventually apprehended and took him into custody.

The police spokesman, who stated that the suspect was being interrogated, added that the police were investigating how the herdsman obtained the weapon.

The development came on the heels of a recent herdsmen’s attack on Attakwu, a community in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.

We’ll Arrest Any Fulani Herdsman Carrying AK47 Rifle – Rivers Police Commissioner

NDIBE

Jul 19, 2016

PORT HARCOURT— The Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mr Musa Kimo, has warned herdsmen in the state against going about with AK47 rifles, saying anyone caught will be treated as a criminal, Vanguard reports.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Kimo, handed down the warning on Monday at a Town Hall meeting he convened at the Police officers mess in Port Harcourt to enhance relationship between hersdmen and communities in the state.

Those at the meeting were members of the various security agencies and some leaders of the herdsmen. The Police chief said no crisis had been witnessed between herdsmen and communities in the state, adding that the programme was to improve the relationship between the police and the people.

“I cannot confirm any arrest, but it is possible that there are arrests in some other commands. Certainly, it is unlawful for herdsmen to carry AK 47 rifles. Anyone seen would be arrested. Let us know that herdsmen and other persons who carry arms are nothing but criminals,” he said.

MENTAL..
