Smartwatches is taking center stage among leading global device makers and with the IFA 2016 we are hoping to see lots of unveiling of devices.

Samsung has officially launched its latest smartwatch, the Gear S3 as expected and the Gear S3 comes in two models, the Gear S3 Classic which according to the company “pays homage to the minimalist, elegant style found in the most iconic timepieces” and the other model which built to withstand some bit of ruggedness, the Gear S3 Frontier which Samsung claims “was designed to perform in any setting or environment – whether business or leisure”.

The Samsung Gear S3 amazingly is protected by the new Corning Gorilla Glass SR+, with a 1.3-inch Always On Display (AOD) and Super AMOLED technology display and supports for Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) which is new on Samsung smartwatch device and enables users make payments at non-NFC terminals. The Gear S3 comes with built in NFC which supports Samsung’s mobile payments service, Samsung Pay. The Gear S3 meets the IP68 standards for water and dust resistance.

Gear S3 comes with an SOS alerts which enables users call for help from friend, and close relatives or even emergency services, it also comes with an enhanced rotating bezel feature will allow users take or reject calls.

Both variants of the Gear S3, the Classic and Frontier Gear S3 is designed to be flexible as they can be paired with any Android device which runs on Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) or later versions and with at least 1.5GB of RAM.

Am yet to understand the craze behind this smartwatch thing that people spend fortunes for. I love watches but will like it to continue and being its traditional machine of been a timepiece not some facebook and chat alert stuff. Will buy custom made Rolex to these things
