Police IG’s SIRT squad has arrested a group of men who stole 600 bags of rice and sold 400 of them at shocking N7,000 per bag – Four men plus two others, one a major buyer and the other the receiver of the stolen rice were among those who were picked up – The police says it is currently trying to trace the bags of rice already sold out.
Police has nabbed six men who are part of a criminal group that is reportedly responsible for strings of robberies in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The suspects ran into trouble when they hijacked 600 bags of rice worth N6million and sold 400 of them to one Abubakar Ishaku Gwagwalada at N7,000 per bag.

Daily Post reports that the suspects were arrested by security operatives attached to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris’s Special Intelligence Response Team (SIRT). The operatives, who were led by a chief superintendent of police, Abba Kyari, had been tracking those behind burglary and theft in Abuja and environs, when they were tipped off about the bizarre bonanza. The operatives swooped into action and arrested Nasiru Mohammed Ibrahim Mohammed Yahaya Shuaibu and Alaramma Nura Idris. Also arrested were Mallam Sani Mohammed Usman, who received the truckload of stolen grains and the major buyer, Gwagwalada. The suspects were paraded before newsmen at the FCT Police Command, where Idris said the police received an alert diversion of goods after one Yahya Umar Santa, wrote a petition to the FCT State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID.
