That thread went to the dogs long ago. I had to leave when the dregs took over.
There was a time when you could actually give and take meaningful information on that thread but that was long ago. I don't think the little Indians would be brave enough to come here knowing fully well my humble self would be here.

Where did you get your info that MTN and Airtel are the two biggest telecom companies in Nigeria?

Yes MTN is the biggest but... Nigerians have the majority stake in that company in the country that's why it is mostly referred to as MTN Nigeria.

In order of hierarchy in Nigeria the telecom companies goes thus;

MTN Nigeria (with Nigerians as major shareholders).

Globacom (wholly owned by a Nigerian).

Airtel (major stakes by the Indian).

9Mobile (former etisalat but now fully owned by Nigerian banks).


We have other telecom companies that are wholly owned but can't compete with the big four above because their services are currently limited to few cities, the likes of ntel, Smile network etc.

If Vodafone is the biggest single shareholder in Safaricom, that makes them the majority owner. Vodafone owns 40%, government of Kenya owns 30% or so. Facts are stubborn.

Globacom is bigger than Airtel for your information. And it is 100% owned by a Nigerian, Globacom is bigger than any indigenous Kenyan telecom company. So knock yourself out.
