aresa: What is the work of Barr. Adebayo Shittu – that Buhari appointed as Minister of Communication since you only focus on Bunmi Okunowo as ICT dept under Communication ? Did the government pay Shittu without doing any job ? 3 Likes |

Silly folks abound here, lemme use this scenario; since Customs has a Comptroller General heading it,does it negate the fact that it's a department under the Ministry of Finance and strictly under the supervision of the Minister. Does it make sense separating the ICT unit which is an integral part of the Ministry of Communication from its supervisory Ministry? 4 Likes |

Aresa..............There is no point trying to apply grammar or linguistic technicalities to the issue in contention. We have a Minister of Science and Tech We have a Minister of Communications We have a Minister of Information. Bunmi Okunowo is not a minister and isn't in charge of ICT in Nigeria. Depending on what Bunmi wishes to dabble into, he may have to work with either Minister of Science and Tech or Communications Ministers. Bunmi reports to Barrister shittu, you don't believe? Go and do your research and come back and school us better before you contend on it any further. After all, they are agencies of government. Even if you wish to go by linguistic technicalities. ICT means Information and Communications technology If we say Barr shittu is the communications minister or ICT minister, that should suffice, seeing that we already have a minister of Information in the person of Lai Mohammed. Your line of argument is similar to that of one who assumes that simply because Lai Mohammed is the Minister of Information and culture that the National Orientation agency doesn't report to him....... 7 Likes 1 Share |

Smily202: You are free to go to the ICT agency website and the Ministry of communication to educate yourself regarding their duties and mission statements, I'm sure you'll find enough info there to cure your ignorance with. Also while you are at it, try find out why all government ministries have tons of agencies with directors specialized in particular skills needed to deliver values based on the reasons why they were created. I hate saying this, you people reason like elementary school children.. |

succed:
That $24 million was the first time ever the facebook CEO invested in ICT in Africa and that money did not go to Kenya, it went to your own talented ICT countrymen men and women, the ones in the above picture with quality jobs and money to feed their family with. There are tons of ICT companies like the one in that picture employing thousands of Nigerians like yourself.. This is how ICT and the office of ICT benefit Nigerians Do away with ignorance and have some pride and respect for your own country and the talented fellow Nigerians making us proud and bringing value to Nigeria. |

but what is wrong with the mentality of some of us here...especially those saying it's ok for a lawyer who has no training whatsoever to be in charge of ICT...what nonsense are you people saying...how about you make a lawyer in charge of health ministry or make a doctor in charge of ministry of justice or make an architect in charge of mines and steel...what is wrong with us..atimes I believe we deserve the kind of leaders we get...look...every profession teaches management courses..most of those saying what they don't know here...every professional field with core financial prospects teaches some form of managements...when we leave sentiments and become bluntly objective then we can move ahead as a country..Adebayo Shittu has no business being Minister of Communications...why not then make an architect minister of finance...let's face it.....at the rate at which we are going..the rest of Africa will develop and leave us in doldrums.... 3 Likes |

The main point of the argument in my opinion is that, a Barrister does not fit into the post of Minister of Communication. 1 Like |

aresa: I am highly disappointed in your choice of words, moreso considering that Nairaland is an anonymous forum, you don't even know who I am, my discipline nor in what capacity I made my comment. I didn't insult you - whoever you are - nor call you vile names yet you replied my comment in such a rude manner. I suggested you do your research before you contend further, yet you choose the path of the proud. FYI, OIIE is just an initiative of NITDA. It is not an agency, it is not even a parastatal, its an adhoc program initiated by NITDA and NITDA is under the purview of Ministry of Communications Technology. You still believe I am ignorant?? Visit the OIIE official website below and learn who out of both us is.............what did you call me again?.......... embarrassing, Nigeria, humanity and the internet community.. ictinnovation.gov.ng 3 Likes 1 Share |

Re: CV Of Kenyan ICT Minister Vs Nigerian ICT Minister. by aresa: 10:13pm On Sep 04, 2016 |
ehissi: Office for ICT Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OIIE) is a subsidiary of NITDA with the responsibilities to nurture, cultivate and expand the ICT innovation and entrepreneurship within Nigeria in line with National ICT Policy and NITDA Act 2007. Office for ICT Innovation & Entrepreneurship is Nigerian's ICT office and the head and the person in charge of that ICT office is Bunmi Okunowo, he's the ICT specialist and professional with ICT nackground hence his well deserved appointment to lead Nigeria's ICT program. Bunmi Okunowo is the head of Nigeria ICT program, Office for ICT Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OIIE), not the Minister of communication. The minister of communication is not an ICT professional or specialist, Bunmi Okunowo is. If WAEC ask you who is in charge of ICT in Nigeria, are you going to say the minister of communication? This is how many people in Nigeria fail WAEC.

aresa: Educated people should not talk like illiterates, it is disheartening. In this contex, there is no difference BTW ICT minister and minister of Nigeria Communication Commission. If u still check d hierarchy of Kenya's communications, there will still be a Bunmi Okunowo. It's jst like Ministry of works having several chief engineers, directors and perm secs, and still having a minister of works. 2 Likes |
