HEALTH workers in the country have suspended the nationwide strike earlier scheduled to begin, on Tuesday, following the intervention of the Minister of Labour, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode and the Minister of Health, Professor Babatunde Osotimehin.

Also, a committee was set up to review the issues in contention, following a meeting which lasted till late evening on Tuesday. However, the unions in the health sector gave a three-day ultimatum for the government and the committee to conclude and resolve their grievances.

The unions had scheduled a nationwide strike to commence on Tuesday, which would have brought another crisis to the health sector in the country.

The grouse of the unions, according to a letter addressed to the minister of health, entitled Notice of Industrial Action, was the recent appointments into the boards of the Federal Government-owned health facilities contrary to the earlier promise of Professor Osotimehin.
