Marcus Rashford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are pushing for starts in Manchester United’s fixture vs Manchester City at Old Trafford.

The back five picks itself, even taking into account Antonio Valencia’s 28+ hour flight to Ecuador and back.

With Henrikh Mkhitaryan fit, United can afford to play 4-2-3-1 against a Pep Guardiola side. Mkhitaryan is slicker and more mobile than Wayne Rooney, a player whose failure to flitter between midfield and attack angered Sir Alex Ferguson during the 2011 Champions League final – even though he was United’s best performer.

The qualm with starting Marcus Rashford on the right is his 45-minute stint there at Anfield in the Europa League. Yes, it was one of the most abject displays of Louis van Gaal’s premiership, but the teenager is more unpredictable on the left – as he showed against Hull.

Despite that reservation, his pace should concern Gael Clichy and if Anthony Martial doesn’t cut it Rashford can move to the left, with Jesse Lingard an enticing option off the bench.

Mourinho may flitter from club to club but one of the secrets to his success is continuity on the field.

Aside from bringing Paul Pogba into the side, he’s named the same team for three games in the Premier League so I expect him to keep faith with the players that won him the August manager of the month award.

That means Chris Smalling will again miss out and Antonio Valencia will line up at right back – despite only being back in the county 24 hours.

I can’t see Mourinho changing to a 4-3-3 or benching Wayne Rooney, given his derby experience, so I’d expect the same midfield that triumphed against Southampton and Hull City with Fellaini the first name on the team sheet after recovering from a back injury.

There are still doubts about Jesse Lingard’s match fitness, but he loves a big game.

The other big decision Mourinho faces is whether to go with Martial or Rashford on the left, with both youngsters having enjoyed landmark international breaks.

Mourinho will probably play it relatively safe and stick with Martial, but I would throw the 18-year-old in from the start to run at the flagging Zabaleta.

Whether possible formation or nt, i can't see united beating city due 2 Pep factor. Cus every first meeting of Jose nd Pep, usually Pep end up winning.
