South Korea has a plan to annihilate the North Korean capital if it shows any signs of mounting a nuclear attack, according to reports from Seoul.

A military source told the Yonhap news agency every part of Pyongyang "will be completely destroyed by ballistic missiles and high-explosives shells".

Yonhap has close ties to South Korea's government and is publicly funded.

On Friday North Korea carried out what it said was its fifth, and largest, nuclear test.

The international community is considering its response.

The US says it is considering its own sanctions, in addition to any imposed by the UN Security Council, Japan and South Korea.

one thing about society is inequality. through out history kingdoms have ruled kingdoms. humans are too diverse to allow peace, pride will always be a part of humans. pride of ideology and supremacy.

look at this scenario. if every country gets nuclear weapons there will be no order. there will be no leader or follower which is the basic tenet of a society. US were super powers when they had the weapon alone, after the Hiroshima launch Japan gave up the war and no country dared US when they spoke. no one dared them then, not even Russia. now Pakistan, China, Russia, Iran, etc can now challenge US anyday anytime. no "peace" again.

in every structure where humans gather it's either one submits to the other or there will be chaos. by the time everyone had equal edge who will police everyone?

the only reason am indifferent is because of the fact that US has "misused" that privilege of being the leader. but honestly we shouldn't make comments based on emotions but rather critical thinking.

i don't know the level of ur knowledge of history but it sure does not look complete from ur assertion. i mention the other day in another thread that we need a multi-polar world and not a uni-polar world. there can never be peace in uni-polar world because man has always and will always abuse privilege, power, religion, money, trust, sex, name any of it.

Russia and former Soviet has never bowed to the hegemony of the US because soviet had Hydrogen Bomb four years after US bombed Hiroshima. In fact cold war arm race started because US wanted to cow then Soviets into its own will. During the years before soviet break up, the world was relatively at peace as each had areas of jurisdiction the other could not meddle in. plus each tried to undermine the other in non-aligned areas of the world bringing about stability. Soviets invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 was eventuality broken when the US trained and supplied arms to the Mujaheddins which metamorphose to Taliban. the US were stopped in their track of madness by China and Soviets both in Korea in the early 1950's which led to the demilitarised zone at the 38 parallel and in Vietnam which led to its unification.

there must be balance in a system for it to be stable. Rome and Carthage brought peace and stability in the ancient world as each checkmated the other. Both could not invade smaller and weaker countries without intervention from each other till Carthage was destroy and Rome became world master. Can u tell what happened to the Jews in 70AD when the Romans had have enough of Jewish Rebellion.

the world is rejecting the hegemony of the US because it has not made a good account of the past 25 years since it became the sole world power after the demise of the soviet union. Instead of protecting humanity and serving as the arbitrators of peace, it has sponsored terrorism to a level never seen before, meddle in the internal politics of sovereign nations to the point of even overthrowing some. the US has shown that it cannot be trusted with sole power hence Russia which had previously aligned with the US until it was recently undermine by the same US in Eastern Europe and China which the US is constantly making jest of had to call the bluff.

for the past 25 years, the US has not solved the Palestinian issue but instead aggravate it. Iraq, Libya, Egypt, Ukraine and Syria are reminders of the good job the US has been performing. Russia had to intervene in Syria to save its legitimate government since the fiasco in Ukraine which left Russia wounded. or is it the stunt they pulled in Turkey which made Erdogan to flip over to the Russian side forgetting that Turkey has the second largest military in NATO after itself.

The US keep undermining everybody, partners and foes alike to their own detriment. Everybody now needs a deterrent since the US cannot be trusted with sole nuclear power. who wants their country to be bombed back to stone age like Libya and Iraq with its attendant lawlessness without fighting back.

Putin had to remind the US of its nuclear arsenal, the race for nuclear power ensures mutual destruction should the the US keep posturing for war at every end of the globe. the US joint military drills and exercise in the Korean peninsula must stop if North Korea has to backed down from its nuclear and missile programs as the latter is developing its ability to take the war to US soil if the need arises. its like some of u forget that North Korea and South Korea are technically still at war hence any military drills in the peninsula is a threat to the other.
