Yamauchi Talks Gran Torismo 5 Visuals: "better Than Reality" - by kosovo(m): 4:04am On Oct 09, 2009
Gran Turismo has always reset the bar when it comes to sparkling visuals in any given generation, and series creator Kazunori Yamauchi insures us Polyphony will do it again with the fifth entry.

According to a recent NowGamer interview, Yamauchi claims that GT5 doesn't just look great, it actually looks "better than reality." We've already seen just how amazing video game graphics can be after playing through the masterpiece that is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, but there are always bigger and better things just around the corner in this industry, right? Said Yamauchi:

"'Better than reality' – yeah, that's one way of putting it. In a way, it's kind of a given that it's going to look better than reality. The thing about reality is that the criteria for looking "real" are actually a lot stricter and volatile than you'd expect. The way the sun shines, reflects off something, the way it lights scenery – we seldom have the opportunity to see what we consider "reality" under the best and most aesthetically pleasing conditions."

Yamauchi goes on to say there's a distinct difference between "best conditions" in a video game and reality; he gives us the example of the sun shining down at a perfect angle when the race is on television, but you can recreate that all you want in the game. It's an interesting way to look at it, really. But all we really care about is that entirely overhauled physics engine and the overall intricacy and depth of GT5. , well, we do care about the visuals, but we already know they're going to be sparkling and pretty. Yamauchi and Co. will certainly impress us.

Oh No, EA better watch out, their NFS may never stand a chance!

More hype and BS. better than reality? Don't make me laugh. The GT5 prologue didn't even look better than the other competing racing games out there.

lol, to disagree with Kazunori Yamauchi  is the most unwise thing to do, M sorry.
he is a perfectionist, greater than the legendary Hideo Koijma, Gaming is his life, and not a profession, and when he says his game that has taken 5 years to develop is better than reality, i believe him 100%

You mean like Gran Turismo PSP that was in development for donkey years (since the PSP was announced) and turned out to be a just 'ok' game that scored reviews of 75/100 from even biased reviewers like PSM3, playstation extreme etc?

Neither Kojima or Kazunori can stand where Shiggeru Miyamoto stands grin

and you did not  to care know why it was given low score in most reviews?
it's simply because it has no career mode., if you read most reviews, you will find it there,
imagine what polyphony diigital could do to the psp, a game with 800 cars, even had the guts to be compared with the self acclaimed legendary FROZA3. loooooooooools.
400 cars in 2 disc and a mandatory HDD install for arcade is absolutely insane!
just wait and see what will happen when GT5 lands, holy heavens,

Neither Kojima or Kazunori can stand where Shiggeru Miyamoto stands
huh? no comment!

@TEX GT5 is better than NFS shift (let's forget about the cool driver view in NFS). . . EA made the worst mistake by moving from street racing to track racing, I would have loved to see NFS remain a street racing game than become what it is now.
