WHAT IS YOUR VIEW IN THIS ISSUE? SOME FEW YEARS BACK AMERICAN GOVERNMENT PREDICTED THAT NIGERIA WILL BREAK UP BY THE YEAR 2015.WITH THIS ISSUE OF MILITANTS GOING ON IN THE NIGER DELTA ONE BEGINGS TO ASK WHETHER THE AMERICANS HAVE HAND IN WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING IN THE NIGER DELTA REGION.

Here is the ugly truth:

The crisis in the ND needs our urgent attention. However, the crisis will not lead to Nigeria breaking up cause the FG will have no choice than to keep pampering them.
The cause of the so-called break up is likely to arise as a result of incessant butchering of Ndigbo and Christians up north coupled with change of plans regarding presidential zoning in 2015.

As for the Americans having a hand in the ND crisis, thats very unlikely, but then again. . . who knows?

When a few boys started making noise in the Niger Delta, we saw them wearing faded jeans and facecaps with leaves covering their faces and totting AK 47, a couple of months later, they blew up a barracks in Port Harcourt and left a note threatening the Chinese not to come to the Niger Delta, they're wearing full armour including military boots and baraclavas waving M16 Rifles in the air.

There were two things that caught my attention:

1. Who's afraid of the Chinese?

2. Which militant group in the whole world will prefer to drop their AK 47s for M16s unless they were getting large supplies free from the country of origin?

You can also add to that:

3. Which country goes around the world looking for militant groups to liaise with and use against their countries?

4. Which country in the world works hardest to see the downfall of Nigeria and is doing a lot about it?

These are M16's. MEND doesn't carry them.

1. There are far more Ak-47s than M-16s in the ND millitant arsenal. It also happens to be used in the armies of over 16 NATO countries, and is easily available on the black market. Way back in 1982, TIME magazine reported that a hand grenade could be bought in the Middle East black market for $20. Getting assorted weapons on the black market is extremely easy.

2. As said before, variants of the M16 are made in over 15 countries. It is utterly implausible that the US would provide weapons to the Niger Delta millitants.

3. It is in the US's best interests that Nigeria remains whole. Nigeria is a potential massive recruitment ground for Al Qaeda, and a Nigeria in chaos could easily lead to a Somalia type situation. There is absolutely no way that this is a goal of the United States.

most of the weapons used by the millitants are got from the same sources they sell their oil to. In fact, given the booming arms black market and the amount of bunkered oil sold to these people, it's only due to the naivete of the millitants that they have not acquired even more sophisticated weaponry like stinger AA missiles and Russian made SAMs.

@Poster, should American companies be barred from selling arms to even MEND? I am not sure what your question means here. Should American arms dealers not jump at the opportunity to sell to customers such as MEND and other groups in the Naija delta?
