Jermaine Dupri Mauldin, known as Jermaine Dupri or JD, is an American hip hop recording artist, record producer, songwriter and rapper. He was born in Asheville, NC and was raised in Atlanta, Georgia.

Jermaine is 44, born on September 23, 1972.

Born in Asheville, North Carolina, JD got his start early on at the age of ten years old. His father, Michael Mauldin, who was a manager, coordinated a Diana Ross show in 1982 and during the concert Dupri managed to get on-stage and dance along with Diana Ross.

He began performing around thecountry with Herbie Hancock and Cameo at the New York Fresh Festival along with Run-D.M.C. Dupri also was a dancer for the Legendary rap group Whodini at 12.

His production career began in 87, when he produced for the trio Silk Tymes Leather. Two years later, he formed his own production company and named it So So Def; by 1991 Dupri had discovered his first platinum act. After seeing the rap duo Kris Kross performing in a local mall, he signed them and prepared the duo’s first album, Totally Krossed Out. That’s when JD would establish his record label called “So So Def Recordings” and produced tracks on TLC’s first two albums.
