PRESS STATEMENT

Yesterday, the picture of a young orphan Sadiq Sani Mahuta with a neck mass Thyroid Cancer from Fakai Local Government area of Kebbi state was widely circulated in local media. The issue caught the attention of the Wife of the Governor Dr Zainab Abubakar Atiku Bagudu. Thus in line with her resolve to support less privileged , the sick and vulnerable members of the society particularly in Kebbi State, Dr Zainab Bagudu is taking up the the responsibility of finding a solution to medical needs of Sadiq. This will be done under the auspices of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation which the wife of the governor is founder and CEO.

The patient has been invited by the foundation for initial assessment by experts in Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kebbi to ascertain the next line of action.

The decision has been communicated to Sani's carers and he is expected today. The Wife of the Governor wishes to remind all to be vigilant about body changes and seek help early instead of allowing small masses become fulminant growths and harder to treat. As unfortunately, late presentation is associated with poor outcomes.

On a related note, preparations are in full swing by the MCF to mark this years October cancer awareness week with series of activities in the state. These include training for Healthcare personnel, free screening for cervical and breast cancer, pink hijab walk, a fundraising dinner and many other cancer awareness related activities statewide.

Expected to support and attend will be top Government officials, development partners, Traditional and religious leaders, Notable civil society groups, women organizations, student bodies media agencies and other members of the public.

The four day program is slated from 4th to 8th October 2016.
