I think this young Nigerian deserves our votes.

Recent United Nations (UN) statistics from 35 African countries indicate that the largest category of conflict perpetrators and victims are the young people. On the other hand, statistics show that youth contribute to 65 percent of the entire African population. This in itself is an indicator that youths are a pinnacle of rekindling a sustainable culture of peace in Africa.

It is in the light of this that the World Peace Initiative Foundation (WPI) in partnership with Kenyatta University Mentoring Program is organizing the first Africa Peace Summit whose theme is “Nurturing a culture of peace within the youth.” The Aim of the summit is to provide a forum for youth in Africa to engage on identifying strategies for conflict resolution and peacebuilding.

This event is slated for 17th - 20th of October in Nairobi, Kenya.

The event shall also feature the presentation of the first edition of the African Peace Builder Awards. Among the shortlisted candidates for the award is a young Nigerian student (Wadi Ben-Hirki); who over the years, has been passionately involved in Peace building across the country by her National development programs; charity organisation and societal transformation campaigns

Wadi Ben-Hirki is a 19 years old Nigerian who resides in Northern Nigeria. She is a final year student at Covenant University, Nigeria, and the founder of Wadi Ben-Hirki Foundation, a charity organization that helps the disadvantaged children in the society through the campaigns: #Street2School, #GirlsNotWives and #LITMOW (Love In The Midst Of War.)

In the event of being engaged in peacebuilding activities, she has faced several challenges such as; insufficient funds to run some campaigns, lack of access to some victims living in areas that have been greatly affected by terrorist attacks simply because of being a girl child. Nevertheless, these challenges have not stopped her. So far, she has been able to reach approximately 500 people through her peace campaigns.....[Read more: http://africa.peacesummit.net/Wadi+Ben-Hirki+]
