Sometime this year, Uniport was indefinitely shutdown and the students asked to vacate the school. This, I think, was in June 2016. The cause of this was apparent, the school management had decided to insist on a new anti student welfare policy that forces students to repeat a whole session if they don't pay the fees within a stipulated time frame. This policy, otherwise tagged 'No Fees No Exam ' led to a student protest that cost a life and millions in property damages. This notorious policy was also tested in Uniosun and it yielded similar result, protest.

In IMO state university, the No Fees No Exam policy has been proposed, passed and is about to be implemented. The school management has however failed to consider the welfare of every student under her umbrella. By every student, I include those whose parents are civil servants and are being owed a backlog of salaries, those whose parents are pensioners and those whose parents are at this point in time unemployed. The students have cried out and complained as regards to the short notice given them. Indeed, the news that payment of the 19500 ancillary fees have become compulsory was only made known to the students few days to the exam. Not everyone can raise the money within the short time frame between notification and execution.

On this note we plead with The Vice Chancellor, Prof Mrs Adaobi Obasi to please reconsider and ease the pains the students are feeling now. We call on the student union government and the various faculty and departmental executives to please step up and speak on our behalf.

We are willing to pay, but the notice is too short. We plead an extension till next session. God bless Imsu.
